SchraderBachar is passionate about social justice issues and community volunteerism. Professionally, she has worked with the Iowa Commission on the Status of Women since 1999. As Coordinator of Publications and Special Projects, she works for she administers events such as the Iowa Women’s Hall of Fame and Write Women Back Into History essay contest, serves on a variety of task forces, edits the commission’s many publications, and manages the website. SchraderBachar is active in a variety of community organizations and boards. She is currently an elected board member of the National Association of Commission for Women, board member of the Buena Vista University National Alumni Association, Secretary of the Iowa AAUW state board, Financial Vice President of Junior League of Des Moines, President of the Iowa Capital Chapter of ASPA and Vice President of her children’s school PTO. She received volunteer awards from the Governor, Governor’s Golden Dome Awards: Lt. Governor’s Employee Volunteer Award, United Way of Central Iowa, Iowa Jaycees, and Junior League of Des Moines. In 2010, she was named as one of the Des Moines Forty Under Forty.
Her academic background includes a BA degree in social science and speech/drama from Buena Vista University and the master of public administration degree from Drake University. Additionally, she is a certified public manager. She has worked for the Iowa United Methodist Church and Family Services of Champaign County (IL). She lives in Ankeny, Iowa, with her partner, two children, and mother.
