Kathy B. Porter, M.D., MBA, is Professor and Chair of the Department of Obstetrics & Gynecology at the University of South Alabama, and Program Director.
Porter obtained her B.S. in 1977 from Western Kentucky University in Bowling Green, Ky., and her M.D. in 1981 from the University of Louisville, Louisville, Ky. She completed her residency in Obstetrics and Gynecology at Texas Tech University, Lubbock, Texas, in 1985 and her Maternal-Fetal Medicine Fellowship at the University of South Alabama, Mobile, Ala., in 1987. In 2004, Porter received her MBA from Auburn University.
She presently serves as Chair of the State of Alabama Perinatal Association. She is a member of the following organizations; Alabama Section ACOG OBGYN, Mobile OB/GYN Society, Medical Association State of Alabama, Society for Gynecologic Investigation, Association of Professors of Gynecology and Obstetrics, American Institute of Ultrasound Medicine, Society of Maternal-Fetal Medicine, American Medical Association and American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists. She is a member of the Society for Executive Leadership in Academic Medicine and served as Treasurer of that organization from 2003 - 2005.
She is Board Certified and a Diplomat of the American Board of Obstetrics and Gynecology. She is a Board Examiner for the American Board of Obstetrics and Gynecology. She is a Lieutenant Colonel in the United States Army Medical Department.
She serves on the Department of Public Health, Region IV Perinatal Advisory Council and has been a member of the Utilization Review Board for Alabama Medicaid. Porter was Board Chair of the Mobile County March of Dimes for 2006, and she is on the Alabama State Breast Feeding Friendly Hospital Initiative.
