Felsten is a Commissioner, elected Secretary and the Legislation Chair for the Indiana Commission for Women who are committed to the full participation of women in all aspects of society in order to make Indiana a better place to live, work and raise a family. She has a B.A. in Political Science from Indiana University with a minor in Sociology, a certificate in Interior Architecture and an accounting background. She completed Civil and Domestic Relations mediation law classes and is an Indiana Registered Mediator. The last two years the Commission has held Women in Transition programs around the state to help women discover options and strategies that empower them to transform their lives especially during the current recession. This past year putting action behind the mission, which is to understand the needs of women and their families and to work strategically both within government and in Indiana's communities to help bring about positive change,  two projects were started - Hoosier INsight listening sessions and Mothers in Transition. The information gathered from these projects is being compiled and will lead into the next phases. Felsten organized a coalition of all minority and women's organizations in Indiana three years ago to educate and advocate pay equity; in the 2009 session a pay equity bill was passed and signed by the Governor, which was supposed to be added to a summer study committee agenda.


Felsten's employment history is as varied as her educational experiences. She has worked for Accounting Firms, Architectural/Design Firms, including owning her own Design Firm in NY. She has worked in sales, for academic institutions and for county and state government agencies. Cindy is, also a workshop presenter on a variety of topics. She has received numerous awards from a variety of organizations for her volunteerism, leadership and fundraising activities, including the Indiana State Senate, Human Rights Commission, American Heart Assn., BPW, Gay Straight Alliance, and a North County Citation from St. Lawrence University for helping to improve the quality of life in the North Country (Northern NY).
