Instructions for Macintosh users:

Windows Users

Mac users WILL NOT be able to view the webcast in a
web browser (such as IE 4.0 or Netscape).

Instead...

...follow the instructions below to download Microsoft Macintosh Windows Media Player (Beta 3.0), install it, run it and view the webcast directly by typing in the appropriate URL to the video server. (Read these instructions first before downloading.)

Step 1: Start Internet Explorer v4.0 or v4.5 for the Mac.
Step 2: Click here to go to the Microsoft site to download the Macintosh Windows Media Player. When the download is complete, it will put an icon on your desktop that looks like this:


Step 3: Double-click the icon. (If prompted, disable your anti-virus software.)
Step 4: "Accept" the license agreement that opens

Step 5: Click "Install" in the dialog box that follows. (The install process will likely select your main hard drive at the top level to create a folder called "Windows Media Player" on it.)
Step 6: Restart your Macintosh.
Step 7: After the restart, find the
"Windows Media Player" folder on your hard drive.
Step 8: Open the folder and double-click the "Windows Media Player" icon to start it:

Step 9: After the program starts up, go to the File menu and select "Open Location"


Step 10: For the NEXT live Broadcast only (May 20th): In the address dialog box that appears, type [exactly] the following URLs:

OR:
Step 10a: For ARCHIVE Webcasts only: In the address dialog box that appears, type [exactly] the following URLs (based on the webcast you want to view):

- for "The Inside Scoop:"
mms://websupport.drexel.edu/scoop2.asf

- for "A Mayor for the City:"
mms://websupport.drexel.edu/mayor99.asf

- for "Y2K: A Community Conversation:"
mms://websupport.drexel.edu/y2k-3.asf

- for "Philadelphia Newspapers Forum:"
mms://websupport.drexel.edu/news2.asf


Step 11: Click "Open." After a few moments, the signal will buffer, and then the video broadcast should appear. You can control the volume of the broadcast in the media player window via the slider, but be sure the volume in your Mac Sound Control Panel is turned up as well.*


* The Microsoft Media Player software for the Macintosh is BETA software; you may experience problems (such as a dropped connection; or difficulty connecting to a live broadcast) with some Mac operating sytems and/or with some modem connections.
