Not only does the University prepare our students to become
top professionals through classroom and on-the-job training,
Drexel also grooms our students to be responsible citizens
through activities that help them realize the need to give
back to the community. Drexel’s Service Learning
Program, for example, is the nation’s largest
collaboration between a university and public school system.
It places our freshmen in more than 100 Philadelphia elementary
schools, where they teach reading and writing.
Drexel also recognizes the importance of nurturing well-rounded
students, and is dedicated to introducing them to the arts
and humanities. Throughout our campus, visitors will find
diverse examples of art, including The Drexel Collection in
the Anthony J. Drexel Picture Gallery, exhibits
at the Leonard Pearlstein Gallery, performances at Mandell
Theater and world-class architecture. These expressions of
art demonstrate how the University has built upon founder
Anthony J. Drexel’s legacy of incorporating art, culture
and technology in education.
If it were not for Drexel’s location in Philadelphia,
many of our programs would not be possible. The city, one
of the largest in the United States, and its region provide
our students with a diverse and historic “living laboratory”
in which to live, learn and work. Philadelphia’s distinctive
cultural richness offers something of interest for everyone.
I hope you find this guide helpful during your visit to Drexel
and Philadelphia. I look forward to seeing you here.
