Dr. Murugan Anandarajan
associate professor of management information systems, was awarded the Best Interactive Paper Award, OCIS Division, at the Academy of Management Conference. He and a colleague published the paper, “Glaucoma Screening: A Web-based Intelligent System Approach,” in the [i]International Journal of Healthcare Technology and Management.[/i]

Dr. Anthony P. Curatola,
Joseph P. Ford Professor of Accounting, worked to develop MicroMash’s The Tax Relief Act of 2001, Continuing Education Software Series. He was also interviewed by [i]Fidelity Focus[/i] on the Economic Growth and Tax Relief Reconciliation Act of 2001 and short- and long-term investment strategies.

Dr. Jeremy Goh,
professor of finance, authored two articles for publication: “Is a Convertible Bond Call Really Bad News?” in the [i]Journal of Business,[/i] Vol. 74, No. 3; and “The Effectiveness of Institutional Activism” in the July/August 2001 issue of [i]Financial Analysts Journal.[/i]

Dr. Jeffrey H. Greenhaus,
William A. Mackie Professor of Management, and Dr. Saroj Parasuraman, University Distinguished Professor of Management, co-authored the article, “Career Involvement and Family Involvement as Moderators of Relationships Between Work-Family Conflict and Withdrawal from a Profession,” published in the Journal of Occupational Health Psychology. Greenhaus accepted invitations to join the editorial review boards of the [i]Journal of Organizational Behavior[/i] and [i]Journal of Occupational Health Psychology.[/i] He is a member of the editorial boards of the [i]Journal of Vocational Behavior[/i] and [i] Career Development International.[/i]

Dr. Saroj Parasuraman,
University Distinguished Professor of Management, and Dr. Jeffrey H. Greenhaus, William A. Drs. Shawkat Hammoedeh
and Linghui Tang, professors of economics, co-authored the paper, “Empirical Exploration of World Oil Price Under Target Zone,” which Hammoudeh presented during a session he chaired on Oil Pricing Strategies at the Western Economic Association International Conference in San Francisco.

Dr. Thomas Hewett,
professor of psychology and computer science, completed a visiting fellowship funded by the British Government’s Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council. Hewett was based at the Creativity and Cognition Research Studios of LUTCHI Research Center and Loughborough University College of Design in Leicestershire during several short visits to England.

Dr. Frank Ko,
director of the Fibrous Materials Research Center, presented the talk, “Carbon Nanotube Reinforced Nanocomposites by the Electrospinning Process,” at the annual meeting of the American Society for Composites in Roanoke, Va., where he also served as a session chair; the SAMPE New Jersey meeting in Morrisville, N.J.; and at the University of Akron.

Drs. Edward C. Koziara and
Chiou-shuang Yan, professors of economics and international business, presented “The Euro at Two” and “Are Right-to-Work States Less Hospitable to Unions?” at the Academy of Business Administration Meeting in Lisbon.

Dr. Vibhas Madan,
associate professor and department head of economics, and a colleague co-authored the article, “Quality Perception and Monetary Sacrifice: A Comparative Analysis of Discount and Fixed Prices,” published in the [i]Journal of Product and Brand Management,[/i] Vol. 10, No. 3.

Drs. Ali Shokoufandeh
and William Regli, assistant professors of mathematics and computer science, received a $50,000 exploratory funding grant for the 2001-02 academic year from the Information and Data Management Program at the National Science Foundation for their project, “SGER: Algorithmic Infrastructures for Knowledge Management.”

Dr. Stephen Thorpe,
assistant provost for Institutional Research, Planning and Assessment, presented the paper, “Linking Learning Outcomes to Student Course Evaluation,” at the Annual Conference of the Northeast Association for Institutional Research held in Boston.

Drs. June Verner,
William Evanco, Katherine McCain and Greg Hislop, of IST, and a colleague published “The Determinants of Visibility of Software Engineering Researchers” in [i]Journal of Systems Software,[/i] Vol. 59, No. 1.

Brian Wagner,
associate professor, CoMAD, will present the paper and poster session, “Integrating Digital Technologies and Writing in the Traditional Studio Painting Courses: A Pilot for Change,” at the Forum on Faculty Roles & Rewards conference to be held in Phoenix.

Dr. Steve Wrenn,
assistant professor of chemical engineering, received a three-year, $240,000 Young Investigator Award from the Whitaker Foundation for the project, “An Engineering Approach to the Prevention of Gallstones in Humans.”

Dr. Jack Zhou,
professor of mechanical engineering and mechanics, received two research grants: a one-year, $87, 962 grant from the NSF Engineering/DMII program for the project, “Selective Chemical Liquid Deposition Process for Mini-structures and Microsystems”; and a three-year, $233,936 NIST grant for the project, “Finite Element Analysis Modeling, Simulation and Prediction for Rockwell Hardness Tests and Surface Metrology.”
