Franklin`s New Book Helps Mark King Holiday
Drexel`s celebration of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.`s birthday in January coincided with the recent publishing of a biography of the civil rights leader by History Professor Dr. V.P. Franklin.

Franklin`s book, Martin Luther King, Jr.: A Biography, was published by Park Lane Press in association with the Arts and Entertainment Network`s Biography series. Franklin was interviewed by several local media outlets in conjunction with the Jan. 18 holiday.

The University saluted Dr. King with several events. The Newman Center organized a team of students, staff and others to participate in "A Day On," a city-wide project to assist communities to clean up neighborhoods and schools. The Office of Multicultural Affairs supplied transportation.

The Office of Student Life and Administrative Services sponsored a candle light vigil in the Quad, featuring a large-screen video presentation of Dr. King`s "I Have a Dream" speech. The vigil was followed by a "birthday party" in the Dragon`s Den.
