Chemistry Department Completes Lab Overhaul

Two freshman labs, Rooms 302 and 313, and an organic chemistry lab for upperclassmen, Room 518, were part of the project, according to Dr. Robert Hutchins, chair of the Chemistry Department. The rooms were gutted and new surfaces, lab benches and fixtures were installed. The fixtures feature new ventilation hoods that remove chemical fumes.
Donations to the project included $250,000 from the BetzDearborn Foundation, $200,000 from Air Products and Chemicals, $150,000 from the Earl Allabach Trust, $100,000 from Rohm & Haas Company and $50,000 from DuPont Company. The labs were officially dedicated, and contributors were recognized, at a ceremony on December 10.
