IST Hosts 2nd Annual Governorís School
Thanks to a new $292,000 grant from the Pennsylvania Governorís Office and the Department of Education, Drexelís College of Information Science and Technology hosted its second Governorís School for Information Technology in July.
Last year, the School enabled 64 of the top high school engineering students in the Commonwealth to attend a five-week, intensive training session on Drexelís campus. This year, the number of students increased to 80. Dr. Stephen J. Andriole, senior vice president/chief technology officer at Safeguard Scientifics, provided the keynote address at a kickoff luncheon on June 23.
Drexelís school was the first Governorís School in this field, and the first located in Philadelphia or Southeastern Pennsylvania. According to Dr. Scott Overmyer, professor of Information Science and Technology and Drexel faculty coordinator of the program, 12 of last yearís student attendees have applied to Drexel.
