Longtime Administrator/Professor Raynes Dies at Age 84

S. Herbert Raynes `37, who spent more than four decades at Drexel as a student, professor and administrator, died on June 30 at the age of 84.

Two years after graduating from Drexel, Mr. Raynes became a mechanical engineering instructor at the University in 1939. He became a full professor in 1956. In the 1960s, Mr. Raynes began many years of administrative service, holding such positions as assistant dean of engineering and assistant to the president. He retired in 1981 as vice president for academic affairs and consultant to the president.

A basketball and baseball player while a Drexel student, Mr. Raynes is a member of the University`s Athletic Hall of Fame. He is survived by his wife Jean, who lives in Savannah, Ga., and two children.
