BIOMED`s Dr. Dov Jaron Elected to Polish Academy of Sciences Dr. Dov Jaron, Calhoun Distinguished Professor of Engineering in Medicine in the School of Biomedical Engineering, Science and Health Systems, was elected as a member of the Polish Academy of Sciences. Election to the Polish Academy of Sciences is considered an extremely high honor. It is a lifetime appointment and the number of national members of the Academy is set at no more than 350. All members, national and foreign, are elected by the General Assembly from among candidates with the highest scientific achievements. Only a small number of individuals from outside of Poland have been elected as foreign members of the Academy. Men`s Lacrosse Team Upsets Notre Dame Freshman Robert Church scored with 22 seconds remaining in overtime to give Drexel a 7-6 win against Notre Dame, the country`s third-ranked team, on March 9 at Vidas Field. The 20th-ranked Dragons had a 17-save performance by Mark Manos, the 2009 CAA Rookie of the Year. Talent Show and Dessert Reception to Benefit the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society The Drexel community is invited to help the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society by attending a talent show and dessert reception at the New College Building`s Geary Auditorium B on Wednesday, April 28. Doors will open at 7 p.m. and the show begins at 7:30 p.m. The dessert reception, featuring baked goods from local restaurants and bakeries will follow at approximately 8:30 p.m. Donations of $5 or more will be collected at the door. Prizes will be raffled during the show. Raffle tickets will be sold at the door for $1 each, three for $2, or 10 for $5. Sacramento Students Improving Their Community Students at Drexel`s Center for Graduate Studies in Sacramento have made a commitment of sponsoring one public service project each month. Activities have included clean-ups, phone-a-thons, toy and blood drives and runs for charity. Recently the students collected professional clothing for the Sacramento Food Bank. AKT Properties, owner of the One Capitol Mall building that is home to the Sacramento campus, extended the drive to all of the building`s tenants, resulting in barrels full of clothing for Sacramentans in need. Honors for Basketball Players Members of the men`s and women`s basketball teams were recognized by the Colonial Athletic Association for their accomplishments on and off the court. Senior Gabriela Marginean received First Team All-CAA Honors for the 2009-10 season and was co-recipient of the conference`s Dean Ehlers Leadership Award. Sophomore Marisa Crane was selected First Team All-Academic and Marginean, sophomore Tyler Hale, junior Jasmina Rosseel and senior Jennifer Stjarnstrom all earned All-Academic Honorable Mentions.
Freshman Chris Fouch was named CAA Rookie of the Year. Fouch led all CAA rookies in scoring with 11.3 points per game and had 64 three-pointers during the 2009-10 season.
