DUCoM Honorary Degree Recipients Announced
Drexel University College of Medicine will hold its 2009 Commencement on Friday, May 15, at 9 a.m. at the Kimmel Center for the Performing Arts (260 S. Broad Street).
The College will present an honorary Doctor of Science degree to Chancellor Emeritus D. Walter Cohen, DDS, in honor of his outstanding service to Drexel University College of Medicine and its predecessor institutions.
John E. Prescott, MD, chief academic officer for the Association of American Medical Colleges, will be the guest speaker and receive an honorary Doctor of Science degree, according to Richard V. Homan, MD, Annenberg Dean and senior vice president for Health Affairs.
Dr. Prescott received his BS and MD from Georgetown University and completed his residency at Brooke Army Medical Center in San Antonio, Texas. He served in the Army as a major and was attached to the 44th Medical Brigade in Grenada in October and November 1983.
After serving four years at Fort Bragg in North Carolina, Dr. Prescott joined the faculty at West Virginia University School of Medicine, where he was a professor of emergency medicine and dean from 2004 to 2008.
