Dr. Moshe Kam Named Engineering Department Head
Dr. Moshe Kam, Robert G. Quinn Professor in the College of Engineering, assumed the role of department head for the Electrical and Computer Engineering (ECE) department in July.
Dr. Moshe is replacing Dr. Nihat Bilgutay, Vernon L. Newhouse Professor and Associate Dean, who served as the department head for 12 years. Dr. P. Mohana Shankar, Allen Rothwarf Professor, was the interim department head during the one-year search.
Dr. Kam has been a member of the faculty since 1986, after completing his M.S. and Ph.D. in Electrical and Computer Engineering at Drexel. Dr. Kam has served ECE in a number of capacities through the years, as a member of the Student Recruitment Committee, chairman of the Faculty Recruiting Committee, and assistant department head for development.
He is an internationally recognized authority on multi-sensor architectures and team decision processes, and has developed research programs in pattern recognition, information assurance and mobile robots.
His awards include the Third Millennium Medal from the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE), an IEEE Fellow designation, a Presidential Young Investigator Award from the National Science Foundation, and the C. Holmes MacDonald Award for the Outstanding Young Electrical Engineering Educator. His professional association appointments include IEEE Vice President for Educational Activities.
