Dragonfly Wireless Teams Up With Earthlink Network
A first-of-its-kind agreement was made between Drexel and EarthLink to extend the boundaries of Drexel’s Dragonfly wireless network. The one-year trial program, beginning in September, will enable students, faculty and staff to connect anywhere EarthLink Wi-FiSM service is available in Philadelphia and other cities throughout the United States.
EarthLink and Wireless Philadelphia are collaborating in their efforts to build one of the nation’s largest city-wide, wireless networks. The Dragonfly wireless network of 28,000 registered wireless devices is one of the largest private networks in the world.
“The program is not meant to replace traditional wireless access on our three campuses but instead will provide full wireless access service for a limited time each month to our students, faculty and staff across the Philadelphia area complementing our existing wireless and wired solutions.” said President Papadakis. “This partnership is ideal for Drexel as we are always at the forefront of incorporating the latest technologies into academia.”
