Drexel Receives CIO Magazine’s “CIO 100 Award”

The University was selected as a recipient of the 2006 CIO 100 Award, presented annually by CIO magazine to the nation’s top 100 organizations that have distinguished themselves by creating business value though the effective and innovative use of IT. This year’s recipients include Intel, Dell Inc. and General Motors. The announcement was made by Dr. John Bielec, vice president of information resources and technology and chief information officer.

Drexel, in an Application Service Provider (ASP) arrangement, provides IT services to schools such as Cabrini College, Neumann College, Rosemont College, Medaille College and Cumberland University. As an SAP Super Competency Center, Drexel provides SAP academic application and ASP services to nearly 30 schools including the University of Maryland-Salisbury, William Patterson University, Bryant University, Georgetown University, Bently College, the University of Texas-El Paso as well as SAP education in the UK and Russia. Drexel is one of 36 connectors to the high-speed Internet2 Abilene network providing I2 connectivity to the 14 Universities of the State System of Higher Education in Pennsylvania.

The CIO 100 Award will be presented to Bielec at a symposium and awards ceremony to be held in August. Complete coverage of the 2006 CIO 100 Awards will appear in the August 15 issue of CIO magazine and be available online at www.cio.com.
