The Campus Community Development Centerhosted its first-ever “Community Renaissance Day” on October 19. Students, staff and members of the Powelton Village and Summer-Winter Civic Associations participated in this event, which included refurbishing, painting, renovating, cleaning and planting at designated blocks, lots and homes… The College of Engineering received a $1.5 million gift from the estate of William Utzey to establish an endowed scholarship in his name. The announcement was made by College of Engineering Dean Selçuk Güçeri. The scholarship will provide financial assistance to a deserving undergraduate student. Mr. Utzey was unable to complete his college education, but worked with Drexel engineering graduates at Standard Pressed Steel in Jenkintown, Pa. He wanted his gift to provide others with opportunities he did not have… The 2002-03 Hedwig van Amerigen Executive Leadership in Academic Medicine (ELAM) fellows attended the Association of American Medical Colleges’ annual meeting held in November in San Francisco. ELAM presented the poster “A Winning Partnership: Leadership Program for Women in Academic Medicine Benefits Both Participants and Sponsoring Institution”… The Center for Women’s Health is looking for women over age 40 with high blood pressure to participate in a study on women and hypertension. Conversations on Women’s Health with Lynn Yeakel, Betty A. Cohen Chair of Women’s Health and Leadership at the Institute for Women’s Health and Leadership (IWHL), was held on October 30 at Bryn Mawr Presbyterian Church. Participants included Drs. Kathy Kuhlman, associate professor, ob/gyn control, and Katherine Sherif, assistant professor of internal medicine, and clinical director of the National Centers of Excellence in Women’s Health (CoE) of the IWHL. This was the sixth in the IWHL’s outreach/education series.
