New Frontiers at Goodwin College

This month, we welcome more than 2,000 students and their families to campus during our New Student Orientation program. We also formally welcome the new dean of the Goodwin College of Professional Studies, Dr. William Lynch.

Dr. Lynch, who served as interim dean for the past year, has more than 30 years of experience as a public school teacher, professor of education, higher education administrator and educational innovator.

Founded as the evening college in 1892, Goodwin has evolved into a learning center for nontraditional students to meet the demands of working professionals and their employers. Courses are offered in the evenings, on weekends and online. Goodwin also supports six undergraduate full-time day programs offered to traditional students. The college’s entrepreneurial focus, which enhances the University’s academic, research, civic and commercial recognition, now includes customized learning services, providing credit and non-credit options to the corporate community.

Under Dr. Lynch’s leadership, the College will continue to promote, support and extend curricular opportunities drawn from Drexel’s other colleges and schools, providing nontraditional students with access to quality teaching and customer service.

Goodwin’s academic offerings continue to grow, adding programs each year. The popular Saturday Scholars accelerated degree program provides two new bachelor of science programs that lead to degrees either in professional studies or in computing and security technology.

Goodwin College, like the rest of Drexel’s other colleges and schools, continues to attract distinguished faculty.

The College currently houses the graduate program in food science, formerly in the College of Arts and Sciences, while launching a graduate program in sport management. Beginning this month, the sport management program will be headed by David P. O’Brien, formerly director of athletics at Northeastern University.

Dr. Lynch will use his wealth of experience in continuing professional education, to lead Goodwin to new frontiers and continue to distinguish the College from its peers.
