Drexel has been invited by the government of Poland to offer academic programs in that country through a joint initiative with the Polish Academy of Sciences, according to Provost Richard Astro. In a letter to Astro, Poland`s President, Aleksander Kwasniewski, offered to serve as "honorary patron" and to work to assist Drexel in obtaining scholarships for deserving Polish students to attend the programs. Under the current proposal, the programs will also be open to Drexel students. Members of Drexel`s Board of Trustees met with representatives of President Kwasniewski and the Polish Academy of Sciences in February to discuss the initiative.
