Drexel: Higher Education at the Cutting Edge
At
Drexel University's "Thank You, Sacramento" gala event on September
17, Intel's Michael Jacobson (chair of the Metro Chamber board and pictured
at left) spoke about the importance of higher education to the vibrancy
and sustainability of a community — and how critical it is to have
a university like Drexel in the region.
In addressing the fast pace of technological development, Jacobson said,
"We are preparing students for jobs that don't yet exist, using jobs
that have not yet been invented, in order to solve problems that we don't
even know are problems." He went on to welcome Drexel to Sacramento,
and pledged the support of the business community, saying, "Sacramento's
success in the global economy will be determined by the ability of our populace
to learn."

Drexel's Partnership with the Region
Since 1891, Drexel's mission has been to provide a "practical education
to men and women equally." It was a radical idea a century ago, and
it's still a hallmark of the Drexel tradition. Drexel continues to fulfill
that mission by forging strong partnerships in the communities it serves.
To demonstrate its commitment to the Greater Sacramento region, Drexel recently
sponsored:
- "Perspectives," the annual conclave hosted by the
Sacramento Metropolitan Chamber of Commerce
- "Clean Start 2008," a conference hosted by the Sacramento
Area Regional Technology Alliance
- "HR — the Brilliant Gem of Every Organization," the
annual conference of the Sacramento Area Human Resources Association
At each, Drexel was highlighted as an entrepreneurial university on the
cutting edge of higher education and a partner in providing the knowledge
and skills needed by the region's next generation of leaders.

MS in Human Resource Development: A Complete
Program
As
the business world becomes more competitive, human resources professionals
provide an increasingly important role in the workplace. Drexel University's
MS in Human Resource Development is one of the few programs to address
the total challenges of today's HR professionals. Drexel puts special focus
on "in-sourcing," where HR professionals work to avoid the disruptions
that can be caused by the loss of valued employees, and focus on education
in order to promote from the inside instead of hiring from the outside.
Drexel's MS in Human Resource Development program also features a 20-week,
part-time co-op experience, where students receive hands-on education in
the workplace.
