Drexel Celebrates 12th Annual National Engineers Week 2006

The College of Engineering will celebrate National Engineers Week February 18-24. To mark the occasion, the College will host a variety of events to promote awareness and understanding of the field of engineering and the importance of a technical education, and provide tools and information for Greater Philadelphia youth to pursue engineering careers.

Saturday, February 18
Drexel Men's Basketball Game versus Vermont
Time: 5 p.m.
Location: Hospitality Suite, Daskalakis Athletic Center (33rd and Market Streets)
Drexel's 12th annual week of engineering recognition kicks off with the Drexel men's basketball game hosted by CoE and the CoE Alumni Association.

Monday, February 20
Egg Drop
Time: 1-4 p.m.
Location: Great Court, Main Building (32nd and Chestnut Streets)
Drexel engineering students and faculty compete to see whose eggs will survive the freefall from the top of the Great Court steps. 

Tuesday, February 21
High School Engineering Exploration Day @ Drexel University
Location: Bossone Research Enterprise Center (32nd and Market Streets)
Area high school students will have the opportunity to gain hands-on math and science experience by working in laboratories with Drexel's engineering students and faculty.

Society of Women Engineers Jeopardy Night
Time: 6:30-9 p.m.
Location: Hill Conference Room, LeBow Engineering Center (31st and Market Streets)

Wednesday, February 22  

College of Engineering Marvels Day

Time: 11 a.m.-3 p.m.
Location: Creese Student Union Complex (32nd and Chestnut Streets)
Catch a glimpse of CoE's "Marvels of Engineering" display. Learn about engineering around the region and at Drexel, visit with representatives from Pennoni Associates, view the engineering design of the new Cira Centre located at Amtrak's 30th Street Station and more.

Honors Day Ceremony and Reception
Time: 5 p.m.
Location: Bossone Research Enterprise Center
Outstanding engineering students will be recognized for their academic achievements.  A reception will immediately follow the ceremony. 

Thursday, February 23
College of Engineering Career Fair

Time: 10 a.m.-3 p.m.
Location: Behrakis Grand Hall (32nd and Chestnut Streets)
CoE and Steinbright Career Development Center are hosting the Second Annual Career Fair. Engineering firms and regional companies will be recruiting undergraduate and graduate students from all engineering disciplines.

Friday, February 24

Engineer of the Year Forum

Time: noon-2 p.m.
Location: Bossone Research Enterprise Center Auditorium
2006 Engineer of the Year Dr. Robert M. Koerner (above) '56, '63, H.L. Bowman Professor of Civil, Architectural and Environmental Engineering and director of Drexel's Geosynthetic Research Institute, will participate in a discussion. Lunch will be served.

College of Engineering Engineer of the Year and Alumni Circle of Distinction Awards Banquet
Time: 6 p.m.
Location: Union League of Philadelphia
