The Department of Physics will present a colloquium on the "Dynamics of Intramolecular Contact Formation in Islet Amyloid Polypeptide" with Dr. Sara Vaiana of the Laboratory of Chemical Physics at the National Institutes of Health, today, Thursday, November 29, 2007 at 3:30 p.m. in Room 919 of Disque Hall (32nd Street between Market and Chestnut Streets).

Rudman Institute to Present Sports Media Program Featuring Tom Brookshire

The Kal and Lucille Rudman Institute for Entertainment Industry Studies in the Antoinette Westphal College of Media Arts & Design and the Sport Management program in the Goodwin College of Professional Studies present "Sports Media: A Multi-billion Dollar Game," on Wednesday, December 5, 2007, at 7 p.m. in Stein Auditorium, Nesbitt Hall (33rd and Market Streets).

The event, a panel discussion on the value and role of sports media in America today and into the future, features Tom Brookshire, former Philadelphia Eagle and CBS sportscaster, Marc Rayfield, general manager, Sportsradio 610 WIP, and Michelle Murray, senior director of news, Comcast Sportsnet. KYW Newsradio 1060's Wally Kennedy will moderate the discussion.

Free Screening of Film about Iraq War: No End in Sight

The Drexel Democrats, Dragon Stage & Screen, and the Organization of Women Looking for Sisterhood in Chi Upsilon Sigma, the national Latina sorority will present a screening of No End in Sight, a documentary on the United States’ war in Iraq, Sunday, December 2, 2007 at 6 p.m. in Room 113, Stratton Hall (32nd and Chestnut Streets).

This film, which features first- hand accounts of the early months of the war, won the Special Jury Award at the 2007 Sundance Film Festival. For more information about the film, visit http://www.noendinsightmovie.com.

Drexel Basketball at the DAC This Weekend

The Drexel men's basketball team will face Creighton University on Saturday, December 1, 2007, at 4:30 p.m. at the Daskalakis Athletic Center (33rd and Market Streets). Creighton is the first Mission Valley team to play at the DAC. The Dragons stunned the Creighton Bluejays last season in Nebraska as part of ESPN's Bracket Buster Saturday.

Food Drive Continues Through December 7

WMMR's Preston and Steve's "Camp Out for Hunger Food Drive," sponsored by the LeBow College of Business MBA Association, will be accepting food donations through December 7, 2007. Non-perishable items will be sent to more than 600 Delaware Valley agencies that operate food cupboards for the needy.

The university or organization that donates the most food in the "Camp Out for Hunger Food Drive" will win a free concert. If Drexel is the winner, the concert will be held on campus for the entire University community. Last year's concert featured OK GO. Further details on this year's concert will be released at the end of the food drive.

Foods packaged in boxes, ready-to-eat cereal, canned goods and creamy peanut butter are among the suggested items.

The Drexel Players Announce Auditions for Lend Me a Tenor

Auditions for Lend Me a Tenor, the musical by Ken Ludwig, will be held on Sunday, December 2, 2007 from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. in the Living Arts Lounge of the Mandell Theater (33rd and Chestnut Streets). Call backs will be held Monday, December 3, from 7 p.m. to 10 p.m. in Mandell Theater.

Directed by Nick Anselmo, the musical follows the chaos that ensues on the biggest night in the history of the Cleveland Opera Company. Through a series of mishaps, Tito Morelli, world- famous tenor, has passed out on the night he is to give his greatest performance ever. Panic sets in, and a variety of exciting events unfold that lead to two tenors, two sexy ladies, and more confusion than anyone is prepared to handle.

Performance dates are February 28-29, and March 1-2, 2008, during winter quarter.

Actors are advised that they will be reading from the script and should read it before auditioning to become familiar with the characters. Actors may also prepare a brief comedic contemporary monologue. Scripts and audition sides are available in the Performing Arts Office, 2018 MacAlister Hall (see Jessica Broderick) and in the greenroom of the Mandell Theater.

Procurement Selects Preferred Vendor for Document Shredding

The Office of Procurement has selected a preferred vendor for document security and shredding. Procurement recommends that Drexel departments can save money by signing up with DocuVault for all document-shredding needs. DocuVault will work with individual departments to create a convenient pick-up schedule and also provides lockable containers for secure storage.

Alumni Association to Hold Annual Turkey Project

Continuing a holiday tradition of more than 30 years, the Drexel University Alumni Association will again provide holiday turkeys to our community neighbors in need. This year, turkeys will be given to more than 1,200 families in the West Philadelphia area and to those served by Drexel's 11th Street Family Health Services Center.

The Drexel community is encouraged to help the Alumni Association by making a donation to the project. Just $25 will supply two families with turkey dinners this holiday season. Donations can be made online by visiting http://www.drexel.edu/ia/giftsonline (enter S8C1 in the "Special Instructions" field). Checks made payable to "Drexel University" may be mailed or delivered to the Office of Alumni Relations in the Paul Peck Alumni Center.

Sex and Gender Research Forum: Call for Abstracts

Drexel clinical, basic and social behavioral researchers whose studies help elucidate sex or gender differences in health or social behavioral processes are invited to submit abstracts online at http://www.drexelmed.edu/iwhl for poster presentations at an all-day sex and gender research forum to be held on Thursday, January 10, 2008, in the Bossone Research Enterprise Center (31st and Market Streets).

The poster presentations are open to faculty, postdoctral researchers, residents and students (graduate and undergraduate). Prizes for best student presentations will be awarded. The deadline for abstracts is December 7, 2007.

The Institute for Women's Health and Leadership will host the annual Helen I. Moorehead-Laurencin Sex and Gender Research Forum, an all-day event on campus showcasing clinical, basic and social behavioral research at Drexel focused on women. Guest speakers will address the issues of mental health, substance abuse and women.

CAB's Fall Comedy Show to Feature Stephen Lynch

The Campus Activities Board (CAB) will host the Fall Comedy Show 2007 on Friday, November 30, at 8 p.m. in the Main Building Auditorium (32nd and Chestnut Streets). The show features comedian Stephen Lynch (above).

Drexel TrebleMakers Benefit Concert

The Drexel TrebleMakers, the only all-female a-capella group on campus, will be holding its first-ever Philacapella Benefit Concert on Saturday, December 1, at 7 p.m., in Stein Auditorium, Room 111 of Nesbitt Hall (33rd and Market Streets). This show will feature guest groups from the Philadelphia area, including the Pennsylvania Six-5000, Lafayette Chorduroys, Temple's A Choired Taste, and Swarthmore Grapevine. It will also help to raise money for Philabundance, the Philadelphia region's food-rescue organization.
