"No Seat at the Table: A Discussion of Women and Corporate Boards"
The Drexel University College of Law Program in Business & Entrepreneurship and The Center for Corporate Governance in the Bennett S. LeBow College of Business present a conference, "No Seat at the Table: A Discussion of Women and Corporate Boards," on Thursday, November 29, 2007 at 2 p.m. in the Mitchell Auditorium of the Edmund D. Bossone Research Enterprise Center (Market Street between 31st and 32nd Streets).
Speaker: Douglas M. Branson, professor and W.O. Edward Sell Chair in Business Law in the University of Pittsburgh School of Law and author of No Seat at the Table: How Corporate Governance and Law Keep Women Out of the Boardroom (New York University Press).
Panelists: Elva L. Bankins, president of The Forum of Executive Women and senior vice president and CEO of Resources Inc.; Joan MacLeod Heminway, professor of law in the University of Tennessee College of Law; Vicki W. Kramer, principal V. Kramer & Associates; Ellen C. Wolf, senior vice president and chief financial officer of American Water and member of the board of C & D Technologies, Inc.
Moderator: Karl S. Okamoto, associate professor in the Drexel University College of Law and member of the board of Champps Entertainment, Inc.
In his recent book, No Seat at the Table: How Corporate Governance and Law Keep Women Out of the Boardroom (NYU Press), Professor Branson offers evidence that women continue to be underrepresented on the boards of directors of America's public companies. The goal of this conference is to review the evidence, examine the potential causes and evaluate the reasons for eliminating the paucity of women on corporate boards. To register for the free event, visit http://www.drexel.edu/law/registration112907/default.asp.
The conference is sponsored by Pepper WIN!, a program to recruit, retain, train, promote, support and develop women attorneys at Pepper Hamilton LLP. To learn more about the program and speakers, visit http://www.drexel.edu/law/conference-11-29-07.asp.

CoAS to Present Dean's Seminar "Surveying the Earth with Neutrinos"
The College of Arts and Sciences Dean’s Seminar Series will present “Surveying the Earth with Neutrinos,” today, Wednesday, November 28, 2007, from 3:30 p.m. to 5 p.m. in Room 109, Disque Hall (32nd & Chestnut Streets). Dr. Jelena Maricic, assistant professor in the Department of Physics, will discuss geological neutrinos and their use in testing models of the Earth’s heat flow and geomagnetism.
Four-and-a-half billion years after its formation, our planet is still very hot, with the interior below the thin crust (4-40 km depth) still composed of hot liquid material. Uranium and thorium, although present in trace amounts inside Earth, are believed to provide the heat source that keeps our planet warm for such an extended period of time. The KamLAND experiment in Japan has made the first-ever experimental measurement of the amounts of uranium and thorium inside Earth. It has done this by measuring the flux of geological neutrinos emitted in the radioactive decay chains of U and Th. The results of this measurement will be discussed, as well as the prospect of the future anti-neutrino observatory.
This event is free and open to students, faculty and staff. Refreshments will be served. For more information, contact Amy Weaver, Interim Communications Specialist, at 215-895-5976 or amw55@drexel.edu.
