Per Contra to Hold Author Readings Tonight nnnnnnn
Six authors whose work was published in the first year of Per Contra: The International Journal of the Arts, Literature and Ideas (http://www.percontra.net) will present readings today, November 28, 2006, from 7-9 p.m. in the Anthony J. Drexel Picture Gallery of The Drexel Collection, located on the third floor of the Main Building (32nd and Chestnut Streets).
Richard Burgin, Paula Marantz Cohen, Daniel Hoffman, Lynn Levin, David R. Slavitt and Elaine Terranova will read passages from their work. Hosted by Per Contra editors Miriam Kotzin, director of the Certificate Program in Writing and Publishing in the department of English and philosophy, and Bill Turner. The "Per Contra Celebration: Reading of Fiction and Poetry" is sponsored by The Drexel Collection, College of Arts and Sciences, Certificate Program in Writing and Publishing, department of English and philosophy and Magnificent Minds.
Burgin is the founder and editor of the international journal Boulevard, author of 12 books and four-time recipient of the Pushcart Prize. Cohen is a Distinguished Professor of English at Drexel, co-editor of The Journal of Modern Literature and host of The Drexel InterView. Hoffman is the author of 11 books of poetry and a former Library of Congress Consultant in Poetry. Levin has published two collections of poems and was named Bucks County Poet Laureate. Slavitt is the author of 87 books including fiction, poetry and translations of Greek and Latin. Terranova is the author of three books of poetry and has received two Pennsylvania Council of the Arts grants, the Walt Whitman award and a National Endowment for the Arts Fellowship in Literature.
The event is free and open to the public. A book-signing will be held and refreshments will be served following the readings. For more information, email drexelcollection@drexel.edu.

Microsoft's Dr. Jim Miller to Discuss Compilers in Modern Software
Dr. Jim Miller from the Microsoft Corporation will speak on "Where Has My Compiler Gone?" on Wednesday, November 29, 2006 at 4 p.m. in the University Crossings Building room 153 (32nd Street and JFK Boulevard). The lecture is part of the Computer Science Colloquium Series.
The talk will discuss the changing role of compilers in modern software systems, including the relationship between a compiler, a runtime, a development environment and an operating system. The discussion will demonstrate how different views on the purpose of a high-level programming language result in different language designs and compilation strategies.

Judaic Studies: "Tracking a Stolen Chagall Painting..."
The Judaic Studies Program presents "The World to Come: Tracking a Stolen Chagall Painting and Finding a Lost Literary World," a lecture and book-signing by Dr. Dara Horn, author of The World To Come (W.W. Norton Company, 2006, paperback), on Thursday, November 30, 2006 at 10:10 a.m. in Hagerty Library room 302 (33rd and Market Streets).
Dr. Horn, an acclaimed young Jewish-American novelist whose first novel, In the Image, received numerous awards, holds a Ph.D. in comparative literature from Harvard University with a specialty in Hebrew and Yiddish literature. Dr. Horn will discuss the early career of Marc Chagall and the Yiddish writers in his circle, and how these writers inspired Chagall and later Horn herself.

Research Funding for Senior Projects
The Drexel chapter of Sigma Xi, the scientific research society, will host the seminar "Research Funding for Senior Projects" on Tuesday, December 5, 2006 from noon-2 p.m. in Disque Hall room 109 (32nd Street between Market and Chestnut Streets). The seminar is sponsored by Sigma Xi, the College of Arts and Sciences, and the Office of Research.
The seminar is designed to assist students in their junior year of study in finding and obtaining research funding for their senior projects.
The seminar is free and open to all Drexel undergraduates. Lunch will be provided. Space is limited and registration is required. To reserve a space, e-mail Dr. Charles Lane in the department of physics at lane@duphy4.physics.drexel.edu.

The Foundation of Undergraduates for Sexual Equality [FUSE] will meet tonight, November 28, 2006 at 8 p.m. in Greenawalt Conference Room D, on the lower level of the Creese Student Center (32nd and Chestnut Streets).

CEO Program to Hold Two Workshops Today
The Creating Excellent Organizations (CEO) program has scheduled two workshops for today, November 28, 2006.
Mark Loschiavo, executive director of the Laurence A. Baiada Center for Entrepreneurship in Technology and president of First Serve Strategies, will present "Seven Secrets of Effective Leaders" from 6-7:30 p.m. in MacAlister Hall room 2020 (33rd and Chestnut Streets). The session is open to all students.
Representatives from Drexel's Center for Civic Engagement will present "Picking the Right Service Project, Organizing It and Training Your Volunteers" from 6-7:30 p.m. in the Myers Hall Tutor Lounge (33rd and Race Street). The workshop is designed for student organizational leaders and members.

Robert Venturi and Denise Scott Brown on The Drexel InterView
Architect Robert Venturi and architect and urban planner Denise Scott Brown will be the guests of Paula Marantz Cohen on DUTV's The Drexel InterView today, November 28, 2006, at 8 p.m. The show will be rebroadcast at 10 a.m. on Wednesday, November 29; Saturday, December 2; Sunday, December 3; and Monday, December 4. This is the first of a two-part series, with part two airing Tuesday, December 5 at 8 p.m.

Dr. Eric Zillmer to Open Photo Exhibition at International House
The International House at Philadelphia is hosting a military psychology photo exhibition from Dr. Eric Zillmer's (above) co-edited book Military Psychology: Clinical and Operational Applications now through Friday, December 15, 2006.
A reception and book signing by Dr. Zillmer will open the exhibition on Wednesday, November 29 from 4:30-6:30 p.m. at International House (37th and Chestnut Streets).
Dr. Zillmer is Pacifico Professor of Psychology and director of athletics at Drexel. Military Psychology co-editor Carrie Kennedy will also attend the reception and book signing. She is a 2000 Drexel alumna and serves as a lieutenant commander and neuropsychologist in the U.S. Navy.
The Gallery at the International House is open to the public daily between 8 a.m. and 8 p.m. The exhibition is sponsored by the Carl R. Pacifico Professorship of Neuropsychology at Drexel, the department of psychology, the office of the Senior Vice President for Student Life and Administrative Services and Barnes & Noble Bookstores.

SCDC Holds Workshops for Graduating Students
Students preparing for interviews for full-time jobs are invited to attend the Steinbright Career Development Center's (SCDC) workshops on topics such as interview techniques, resume review, negotiation strategies and other career-related subjects. The hour-long sessions will enable students to ask questions they want to discuss before their job interviews.
Workshops will be held at the SCDC (3201 Arch Street, Room 250) on the following dates:
- Today, November 28, 3-4 p.m.
- Wednesday, November 29, 11 a.m.-noon
- Tuesday, December 5, 10-11 a.m.
- Wednesday, December 6, 3-4 p.m

Women's Health Education Program's Seminar Series Celebrates 10 years
The Women's Health Education Program in the Drexel University College of Medicine is hosting a special reception and program to commemorate the 10th anniversary of the Women's Health Seminar Series on Tuesday, December 5, 2006 beginning at 5:30 p.m. at the Student Activities Center on the Queen Lane Medical Campus, first floor (2900 Queen Lane).
The event, "Health and Wellness in a Traumatized Society - Violence, Gender Differences, and Self-Care: Foundations to Promote Success" will feature keynote speaker Dr. Sandra L. Bloom, psychiatrist, president of CommunityWorks and national expert in the role of trauma influencing health.
An expert panel featuring Joseph Foderaro, LCSW; Dr. Julie Mostov, and Candace Robertson, MPH will respond to Dr. Bloom's presentation. A reception and welcome will be held from 5:30-6:30 p.m. and the program and panel will run from 6:30-8 p.m.
