No Seat at the Table: A Discussion of Women and Corporate Boards
The Drexel University College of Law Program in Business & Entrepreneurship and The Center for Corporate Governance in the Bennett S. LeBow College of Business present a conference, No Seat at the Table: A Discussion of Women and Corporate Boards, on Thursday, November 29, 2007 at 2 p.m. in the Edmund D. Bossone Research Enterprise Center (Market Street between 31st and 32nd Streets).
Speaker: Douglas M. Branson, professor and W.O. Edward Sell Chair in Business Law in the University of Pittsburgh School of Law and author of No Seat at the Table: How Corporate Governance and Law Keep Women Out of the Boardroom (NYU Press).
Panelists: Elva L. Bankins, president of The Forum of Executive Women and senior vice president and CEO of Resources Inc.; Joan MacLeod Heminway, professor of law in the University of Tennessee College of Law; Vicki W. Kramer, principal V. Kramer & Associates; Ellen C. Wolf, senior vice president and chief financial officer of American Water and member of the board of C & D Technologies Inc.
Moderator: Karl S. Okamoto, associate professor in the Drexel University College of Law and member of the board of Champps Entertainment, Inc.
In his recent book, No Seat at the Table: How Corporate Governance and Law Keep Women Out of the Boardroom (NYU Press), Professor Branson lays out evidence that women continue to be underrepresented on the boards of directors of America's public companies. The goal of this Conference is to review the evidence, examine the potential causes and evaluate the reasons for eliminating the paucity of women on corporate boards. To register, click here http://www.drexel.edu/law/registration112907/default.asp.
The Conference is sponsored by Pepper WIN!, a program to recruit, retain, train, promote, support and develop women attorneys at Pepper Hamilton LLP. To learn more about the program and speakers, click here: http://www.drexel.edu/law/conference-11-29-07.asp.

Auditions Set for Award-winning Play Prom
Auditions for the Philadelphia premiere of the award-winning play Prom will be held on Sunday, November 25, 2007, from 6:30 to 10 p.m. and Monday, November 26, 2007, from 7:30 to 10 p.m. in the auditorium of the Main Building (32nd and Chestnut Streets).
Staged by New Paradise Laboratories (NPL) as a sporting event with students vs. chaperones, Prom is a bittersweet, wickedly funny and thoughtful barrage of questions and open-ended answers set to a wall of music and outrageous imagery. Students will be cast to perform alongside professional actors through the Mandell Professionals in Residence Project (MPiRP) of the Antoinette Westphal College of Media Arts & Design.
There is nothing to prepare; the actors will create the characters through improvisation, using NPL's unique form of physical theater. Actors are encouraged to dress comfortably for ease of movement.
Rehearsals will begin over spring break for performances in May. For more information, contact Nick Anselmo at nick.anselmo@drexel.edu. MPiRP is supported in part by a grant from The Samuel P. Mandell Foundation.
