USGA to Present "An Evening with Taki" - Open Forum with the President

The Undergraduate Student Government Association (USGA) will present "An Evening with Taki" on Wednesday, October 26, 2005 from 6 - 8 p.m. in Matheson Hall, Patten Auditorium (32nd and Market Streets).

This open forum with Dr. Papadakis will give students an opportunity to explore a range of topics directly with the president. If you are unable to attend, you can submit your questions using the Drexel Shift by visiting http://www.drexelshift.com.

This will be a great opportunity for students to see where the University is going. Food and beverages will be provided.

Tickets Still Available for Fall Comedy Show
Featuring Jamie Kennedy


Tickets are still available for the Campus Activities Board's 6th Annual Comedy Show, featuring Jamie Kennedy (above), on Friday, November 4, 2005 at 8 p.m. in the Main Building Auditorium (32nd and Chestnut Streets).

Best known for his performances in Malibu’s Most Wanted and Son of the Mask, Kennedy made his debut in the movie Romeo + Juliet. He is also known for his show The Jamie Kennedy Experiment, which quickly became the WB’s highest ranking new show. Jamie is currently at work on two more shows for the WB, Living with Fran and The Starlet.

Tickets for this event are $10 and are on sale from 11am-12pm and 6pm-7pm at the CAB office in MacAlister Hall across from the bookstore. . Anyone wishing to purchase tickets must present a valid Drexel Undergraduate Student ID at the time of purchase. There is a limit of two tickets per ID.

Register Now for the CAA Blood Challenge


Drexel Athletics announces the fourth annual "Have A Heart" Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) Blood Challenge on Thursday, November 3, 2005. Help the Dragons surpass last year's total of 625 pints collected and win the CAA Challenge. All Drexel campuses will participate in the blood drive.

Novelist Bharati Mukherjee to Speak at Drexel


Award-winning author Bharati Mukherjee (above) will present a free lecture to the Drexel community on Wednesday, October 26, 2005 at 1 p.m. in the Main Building Auditorium (32nd and Chestnut Streets). Mukherjee will sign copies of her books at a reception following the lecture in the Great Court. The book signing and reception are sponsored by the Magnificent Minds Lecture and Arts Series.

Mukherjee, a Distinguished Professor at the University of California, Berkeley, is the author of the recently published novel The Tree Bride and winner of the National Book Critics Circle Award for The Middleman and Other Stories.

Mukherjee was invited to Drexel by the Freshman English Program Advisory Group, which selected The Middleman as the book to be read by incoming freshmen across the University. The goal of the Drexel Freshman Reading Assignment is to allow students to share a common reading experience as a foretaste of the intellectual inquiry and discourse they will find at the University. The visit is sponsored by the College of Arts and Sciences.

In preparation for Mukherjee's visit, the University community has established a discussion group that addresses responses to The Middleman and considers the many ways its stories apply to colleges and disciplines across the University.

MSE Seminar to Discuss Evaporation and Pattern Formation


The department of materials science and engineering will hold a seminar on "Evaporation and Pattern Formation: Dendrimers on Substrates" on Tuesday, October 25, 2005 at 1:45 p.m. in the Hill Seminar Room, 240 LeBow Engineering Building (31st and Market Streets).

Steinbright Center to Sponsor Microsoft Co-op Presentation


The Steinbright Career Development Center will sponsor the presentation "IT Co-op Opportunities at Microsoft" on Monday, October 24, 2005 at 5 p.m. in the Bossone Research Enterprise Center Auditorium (Market Street between 31st and 32nd Streets). The event is free and open to all students.

Microsoft Program Manager Dan Belcher will discuss the company's IT co-op opportunities, present a behind-the-scenes view of Microsoft's IT co-op program and the company's culture, and more.

Students should bring their resumes to be considered for interviews and for the chance to win a wireless keyboard and mouse. Food and giveaways will be provided.

IWHL Holds Research Advancement Day


The Sex and Gender Research Forum, part of the 2005 Helen I. Moorhead, M.D. Research Advancement Day, will be held on Thursday, October 27, 2005 from 3-7 p.m. at the Queen Lane Medical Campus Auditorium A (2900 Queen Lane). The Forum is sponsored by the Drexel University College of Medicine's Institute for Women's Health and Leadership (IWHL).

The Forum will include platform presentations and a poster session on sex and/or gender differences featuring the work of Drexel faculty and undergraduate, graduate and medical students. Dr. Saralyn Mark, senior medical advisor to the Office on Women's Health (DHHS) and NASA, will speak on "Are Women from Mars and Men from Venus?"
