Meet Drexel Green at Noon Today

Drexel Green invites students, faculty and staff to attend an information session to discuss Drexel Green's action plan for the fall quarter today, September 30, 2008, at noon at the Private Dining Room, lower level, Creese Student Center (32nd and Chestnut Streets).

Committees will be formed to develop recommendations for presentation to the Drexel community in January 2009.

Complimentary food will be provided.

Sierra Club to Meet Tonight

The Drexel Sierra Club will be hold a general membership meeting today, September 30, 2008, at 8 p.m. in room B, Greenawalt Student Develpment Center, lower level, Creese Student Center (32nd and Chestnut Streets).

The Sierra Club is a national environmental organization that works to protect our communities and the planet. The club is America's oldest, largest and most influential grassroots environmental organization. Future plans for creating a greener Drexel and strengthening community and social ties will be discussed at the meeting. All those interested in participating with the Sierra Club should come and express their ideas. Those unable to attend should contact the Sierra Club and information from the meeting will be provided.

CoAS to Present Dean’s Seminar

The College of Arts and Sciences’ Dean’s Seminar Series will present “Are Your Eyes Bigger than Your Stomach? Physiological Evidence for Food-induced, Drug-like Reinforcement in Adults,” on Wednesday, October 1, 2008, from 3:30 to 5 p.m. in room 109, Disque Hall (32nd Street between Market and Chestnut Streets).

Understanding the way our body subconsciously regulates food intake may help avoid or limit weight gain. Dr. Jennifer Nasser, assistant professor in the Department of Bioscience and Biotechnology, will discuss how the brain’s response to food can drive adult humans to overeat despite having met their physiological needs. Dr. Nasser will present an overview of food-intake regulation and discuss new methods for assessing human eating behaviors.

This event is free and open to students, faculty and staff. Refreshments will be served.

Pre-registration Meetings for Students

The Steinbright Career Development Center is currently holding pre-registration and ES&P (Employment Summary & Planner) meetings for students scheduled for spring/summer 2009 co-ops. Students must pre-register for co-op before October 31, 2008.

First-time co-op students must schedule pre-registration meetings in order to participate in the co-op process.

Students returning from co-op must schedule meetings with their coordinators to review their ES&Ps  before participating in their next co-op.

Nursing students should call 215-762-7577 to schedule a meeting. All other students should call the SCDC office at 215-895-2185.

Dragon Career Fest

The Steinbright Career Development Center will host the Dragon Career Fest on Thursday, October 2, 2008, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Daskalakis Athletic Center (33rd and Market Streets).

All students and alumni are encouraged to participate.

More than 250 employers are eager to meet interested students and job candidates to talk with them about their companies and job opportunities. This is an excellent opportunity to conduct a proactive job search, research the competitive job market, target specific employers and develop future networking contacts.

Dragon Career Fest participants should dress professionally and bring copies of their resumes for distribution to potential employers.

Meet the Company: Microsoft

The Steinbright Career Development Center will host a "Meet the Company" event with Microsoft on Wednesday, October 1, 2008, from 5 to 6 p.m. at the Atrium, Bossone Research Enterprise Center (Market Street between 31st and 32nd Streets).

The company is looking for the next generation of Microsoft innovators--people with a talent and passion for technology.

Students are invited to learn about full-time and co-op opportunities with Microsoft and receive information about the Seattle area.

Students are invited to bring their resumes for a chance to win great prizes.

Drexel Students with Disabilities

Drexel students with disabilities are invited to attend a special recruitment session on Thursday, October 2, 2008, from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Irvine Auditorium Cafe on the Campus of the University of Pennsylvania (3401 Spruce Street).  

Companies like Merrill Lynch, PepsiCo, Goldman Sachs and Google will be there to recruit students with disabilities for internships and full-time positions in a variety of fields such as accounting, compliance, finance and computer design.

A light dinner will be provided.

FUSE Meeting Tonight

FUSE will meet today, September 30, 2008, from 7 to 8 p.m. in room D, Greenawalt Student Development Center, lower level, Creese Student Center (32nd and Chestnut Streets.)

FUSE is a non-exclusive student organization that strives to promote acceptance, understanding, unity and positive relationships among lesbian, gay, bi-sexual and transgender individuals as well as other communities.

"Let's Talk about Sex" Tonight

VIEW and the Women's Studies Program will host a "Let's Talk about Sex" forum today, September 30, 2008, from 6 to 7:30 p.m. at the Faculty Club, sixth floor, MacAlister Hall (33rd and Chestnut Streets).

Beth Filla, a former sexuality health educator, will return to campus to talk with students about sex, healthy relationships, positive behaviors and wellness in an interactive Q&A session. This discussion will provide an opportunity to have any and all questions answered about sex, relationships, sexual health, dating violence and other issues.

The event is free and open to all students.

Complimentary pizza will be provided.

Shofar Ceremony Today

The observance of the Jewish holiday of Rosh Hashanah ends on Wednesday, October 1, 2008, at sundown.

There will be a Shofar ceremony today, September 30, 2008, at 2 p.m. at  the Korman Quad (between Chestnut and Market Streets and 32nd and 33rd Streets).

Services are available at no charge at University of Pennsylvania Hillel and area synagogues. Students may attend free of charge.

More Than Marketing

Dr. William Rosenberg, professor of political science, and Dr. Scott Knowles, assistant professor, department of history and politics, were quoted on KYW-TV (CBS-3) Sept. 26, 2008, in a story about the presidential debate. Students Sean Miller, President of the Drexel Democrats and Ivan Skakun, Chairman of the College Republicans, were also noted in the story. Drexel student opinion of the debate was also reported by WCAU-TV (NBC-10). 

Kyle O’Connor, a student majoring in computer engineering, was quoted in the Philadelphia Daily News Sept. 29, 2008, about the closing of the Philadelphia post office at 30th and Market Streets.
