DrexelAlert: The University's New Emergency Notification System

The University has implemented a new emergency notification system called DrexelAlert, which will enable fast and efficient dissemination of critical information to students, faculty and staff at Drexel and the Drexel University College of Medicine.

As part of Drexel's ongoing efforts to ensure a safe learning, working and living environment, the new DrexelAlert system provides the Department of Public Safety the capability to send alerts in minutes through text messaging, voice messaging and email to numerous devices, including mobile phones, Drexel landline phones and wireless PDAs. It provides students, faculty and staff with additional security and protection for emergency response, in conjunction with Drexel's already well-established emergency communication methods including University-wide broadcast emails, online updates via the Drexel Web site homepage, and the coordinated use of public news media outlets.

In the event of an emergency affecting the Drexel community (including the University City Main Campus, the Center City Hahnemann Campus and the Queen Lane Medical Campus), students, faculty and staff will receive emergency communications on their mobile phones registered through DrexelOne, via text - message and/or voice message, in addition to an email notification sent to their Drexel email account from the Department of Public Safety. Depending upon the nature of the emergency, the system has the capability to notify the entire Drexel community or only the affected portion of the community.

The effectiveness of this emergency notification system depends on individuals providing accurate and up-to-date personal contact information. All students, faculty and staff must register their mobile phone numbers with DrexelAlert through the DrexelOne portal. Log onto DrexelOne at
http://one.drexel.edu and click the "Drexel" tab, and under the Personal Information section click "Update DrexelAlert Contact Information" to enter or change your mobile phone number.

For more information, visit the FAQ section of the DrexelAlert Web site at http://www.drexel.edu/drexelalert .
