Benefits Buzz

Human Resources will host “Eye Care: When To Use Your Vision Coverage. When To Use Your Medical Coverage,” on Wednesday, September 24, 2008, from 2 to 3 p.m. in room 105, Bellet Building (1505 Race Street). The next Benefits Buzz session, “What Are My Rights Under The Family Medical Leave Act?” will be held on Wednesday, October 1, 2008, at the same time and location.

Benefits Buzz is an informal weekly meeting that answers questions and provides information about Drexel benefits. Human Resources representatives will be available to present information and answer questions from faculty and staff.

Resume Critique Days

The Steinbright Career Development Center will host "Resume Critique Days: Get Feedback from Professionals," on Monday and Tuesday, September 29 and 30, 2008, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. in Behrakis Grand Hall (32nd and Chestnut Streets).

Prominent local and national employers will be on campus to critique resumes and provide valuable job search advice prior to the Fall Career Fair, which will be held on Tuesday, October 2, 2008, at the Daskalakis Athletic Center (33rd and Market Streets). This event is open to all Drexel students.

Performing Arts to Host Kick-off Reception

The Department of Performing Arts will kick-off its annual project, the world premiere of "Bluebird," with a reception on Thursday, September 25, 2008, at 5 p.m. at Mandell Theater (32nd and Chestnut Streets).

The award-winning theater company EgoPo Productions and Orchestra 2001 will work alongside Drexel students in a year-long residency. EgoPo is a repertory theater company devoted to a vocal and physical style of acting that puts theater classics on the edge. The company has recently relocated to Philadelphia from New Orleans. EgoPo has staged more than two-dozen productions over the past fifteen years in New York, New Orleans, Chicago, Washington, D.C. and internationally in Indonesia and Croatia. Orchestra 2001 was founded in 1988, and is dedicated to contemporary American music. Orchestra 2001 will provide the music for "Bluebird."

The reception is free and open to the public.

iSchool Ph.D. Open House

The iSchool at Drexel, College of Information Science and Technology, will host its fall Ph.D. Open House for prospective doctoral students on Wednesday, October 22, 2008, from 5 to 7 p.m. in room 14, Rush Building (30 N. 33rd Street).

Ph.D. students at the iSchool share a passion for research, and exploring how technology links people and information. Human-computer interaction, data mining, digital libraries and competitive intelligence are just a few of the areas in which iSchool students contribute to the information field.

The application fee will be waived for those attending the Ph.D. Open House.

Fall Preview Night

The Campus Crusade for Christ will hold its first weekly meeting of the fall term for worship, fellowship and study with a local pastor on Wednesday, September  24, 2008, from 7:15 to 9 p.m. at the Bookmark Cafe in the Hagerty Library (33rd and Market Streets).

The meeting will provide an opportunity to meet with other Christians on campus and find out what will be happening with Campus Crusade for Christ this term.

Jam Out Against Hazing Tonight

The brothers of Alpha Chi Rho and the sisters of the Pan-Hellenic Sororities will host the first annual Jam Out Against Hazing concert today, September 24, 2008, from 7 to 9 p.m. at the Buckley Field Volleyball Courts (33rd and Arch Streets).

All students are invited to come listen to music, mingle with the greeks and enjoy complimentary food and beverages. The bands include: Nobody Yet, On Display and Reno Subject.

University City Fall Resource Fair

CoAS to Host Dean’s Seminar

The College of Arts and Sciences Dean's Seminar Series will present “Are Your Eyes Bigger Than Your Stomach?" on Wednesday, October 1, 2008, from 3:30 to 5 p.m. in room 109, Disque Hall (32nd and Chestnut Streets).

Understanding the way our body subconsciously regulates food intake may help avoid or limit weight gain. Dr. Jennifer Nasser, assistant professor in the Department of Bioscience and Biotechnology, will discuss how the brain’s response to food can drive adult humans to overeat despite having met their physiological needs. Dr. Nasser will present an overview of food-intake regulation and discuss new methods for assessing human eating behaviors.

This event is free and open to students, faculty and staff. Complimentary refreshments will be served.

Cell Phones for Soldiers Collection Drive

The iSchool at Drexel, College of Information Science and Technology, is participating in Cell Phones for Soldiers by providing a drop-off point for unused cell phones. Drexel students, faculty and staff can support the collection drive by donating their used phones Monday through Friday, from 8 a.m. to 9 p.m., Saturday, from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Sunday from noon to 5 p.m. at the drop-off box located inside the iCommons, room 106, Rush Building (30 N.33rd Street).

President Papadakis and Dr. George Tsetsekos, dean of the LeBow College of Business, were noted in Dan Gross’ column in the Philadelphia Daily News Sept. 23, 2008, for awarding Mary Caraccioli an alumni community-service award. Caraccioli raised more than $1 million for Arthur Ashe Youth Tennis & Education.
