Smackfest: In Support of Cancer Research
The Office of Recreational Sports, Alpha Pi Lambda fraternity and Phi Sigma Sigma sorority will sponsor a volleyball tournament in support of the Lance Armstrong Foundation/LIVESTRONG on Tuesday August 12, 2008 from 5 to 8 p.m. at the Buckley Field Volleyball Courts (33rd and Arch Streets).
All proceeds from the tournament will be donated to LAF/LIVESTRONG. Ribbons and LIVESTRONG bracelets will also be sold for a nominal donation.
Registration begins at 5 p.m. and will be ongoing. Teams will be made up of a maximum of five players. The entry fee is $20 per team or $5 per person, whichever is less. Teams can be co-ed, all men or all women. First place winners will receive a prize.
Those who can't attend the tournament can help support the Lance Armstrong Foundation/LIVESTRONG by making a donation online at http://www.livestrong.org/grassroots2008/drexel.

Exhibition of Historic Chairs in Rincliffe Gallery
Selected historic chairs from The Drexel Collection™ will be on display through the month of August in the Rincliffe Gallery, 3rd floor, Main Building (32nd and Chestnut Streets).
The Rincliffe Gallery is open from 8 a.m. to 9:30 p.m. The chairs on display are European and American. The Collection includes examples of furniture from the 17th through the 19th centuries.

Career Orientation Sessions for Graduating Students
Steinbright Career Development Center is holding Career Services Orientation sessions for graduating students on Tuesday, August 12 and Wednesday, August 13, 2008, in rooms 2019 and 2020, MacAlister Hall (33rd and Chestnut Streets).
The sessions will be held on Tuesday at 1 p.m., 3 p.m. and 5 p.m. and on Wednesday at 11 a.m., 2 p.m. and 4 p.m.
These orientation sessions will help students prepare for the upcoming fall recruiting interviews and provide important information about finding a full-time job. Many employers make offers of full-time employment during the winter holidays before students graduate in June. Sessions will provide information about fall on-campus interviews, career fairs, career counseling and workshops on job search strategies, resume development, interview techniques and negotiation tips.
These orientations are free and open to students scheduled to graduate between now and June 2009.

Chemistry Department to Host ChemSpider Seminar
The Department of Chemistry will host a seminar "ChemSpider: Weaving a Web of Chemistry" with Anthony Williams, president of ChemSpider, on Thursday, August 21, 2008 from 2 to 3 p.m. in room 109 Disque Hall (32nd Street between Market and Chestnut Streets).
ChemSpider is a new resource to provide access to chemistry-related information and has been built with a structure-centric focus and the application of community-based curation to enhance the quality of public domain data. The ChemSpider platform presently holds information for close to 22 million chemicals and provides semantic links to more than 130 different datasources. This presentation will provide an overview of ChemSpider, a vision of future directions and a hands-on tutorial on how to use the system.

This year's STAR students will present posters summarizing their summer research on Thursday, August 14, 2008 from 10:30 a.m. to noon in Behrakis Grand Hall (32 nd and Chestnut Streets).
The STAR (Students Tackling Academic Research) program enables outstanding students to spend their post-freshman summer working on a research project under the mentorship of a Drexel faculty member. The STAR program was developed by President Papadakis and Joan McDonald, vice president for enrollment management, and is coordinated by Pennoni Honors College.
