National Geographic Spotlights Professor Hearn's Wildlife Conservation Efforts

Dr. Gail Hearn, professor in the Department of Bioscience and Biotechnology, and her work in wildlife conservation on Equatorial Guinea’s Bioko Island are featured in the August 2008 issue of National Geographic.

Hearn has surveyed the biodiversity of Bioko Island since 1996 with scientists and students for the Bioko Biodiversity Protection Program, which she established in 1998. A survey over 12 days last January — documented by National Geographic, Conservation International and the International League of Conservation Photographers — came two months after the Equatorial Guinea government banned the hunting, selling and consumption of primates.
