Drexel Garners Gold for Admissions Marketing

Joan McDonald, vice president for enrollment management, announced that the Drexel admissions undergraduate Web site won the 2008 Beacon Awards for Excellence in Education Marketing in the Website/Marketing catagory and a Gold Beacon for best-in-show.

The Web site http://www.drexel.edu/em/ug was conceptualized and implemented by the Office of Enrollment Management’s Creative Group. The Beacon Awards recognize marketing pieces produced for the education market.

Drexel Wins International Awards for Publications Excellence

LeBow College of Business

Dr. George P. Tsetsekos, dean, LeBow College of Business, announced that the College was awarded two 2008 APEX Awards for Publication Excellence, an award in the “Magazines and Journals” category for its LEAD magazine and in the “Education and Training Brochures, Manuals and Reports” category for its undergraduate viewbook. These awards mark the fourth consecutive year that LeBow College of Business has been recognized with APEX Awards. The College has won a total of three Grand Awards and 19 Awards of Excellence since 2005.

Student Life and Administrative Services

James Tucker, senior vice president for student life and administrative services, announced that  his division received an APEX 2008 Award in the "Special Purpose Campaigns, Programs and Plans" category for the Drexel Rowing Capital Campaign brochure, which was produced by the division’s office of communications and marketing.

APEX 2008, the 20th Annual Awards for Publication Excellence, is an international competition that recognizes outstanding publications, from newsletters and magazines to annual reports, brochures and Web sites. Close to 4,500 entries were received for the 2008 awards categories.

IWHL to Present Lecture: "Treatment of Depression During Pregnancy"

The Drexel University College of Medicine’s Institute for Women's Health and Leadership will host a lecture, “Treatment of Depression During Pregnancy: A Clinical Update,” on Monday, July 21, 2008, from 11 a.m. to noon in the Biochemistry Conference Room, 11th floor, New College Building (245 N. 15th Street).

The lecture will be presented by Katherine L. Wisner, M.D., professor of psychiatry, obstetrics, gynecology, reproductive sciences and epidemiology at the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine, and director of the Women's Behavioral HealthCARE program at the Western Psychiatric Institute and Clinic of the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center.

There is no charge for this public event.

Exhibition of Historic Chairs in Rincliffe Gallery

Selected historic chairs from The Drexel Collection™ will be on display through the month of August in the Rincliffe Gallery, 3rd floor, Main Building (32nd and Chestnut Streets). The Rincliffe Gallery is open from 8 a.m. to 9:30 p.m.

The chairs on display are European and American. The Collection includes examples of furniture from the 17th through the 19th centuries.

Mad Dragon Artist Featured on New WXPN Program

MAD Dragon Records artist Andrew Lipke has been selected by WXPN-FM (88.5) as one of its up-and-coming Philadelphia musicians to feature on The Current, a program for a new project called The Music Exchange, in which stations exchange local music on the air and online. The program launched on Monday, July 7, 2008 and will run through the end of the month. On Tuesdays and Thursdays, The Current will air one song from the selected bands at 11a.m. and again at 9 p.m. The music will also be available to download for free at http://www.thecurrent.org.

Retirement Plan Individual Conferences

University City Main Campus

Human Resources will host individual investment education conferences with Fidelity Group on Tuesday, July 15, 2008, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. in Suite 100, (3201 Arch Street).

Individual conferences will also be held with TIAA-CREF on Thursday, July 17, 2008 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. in Suite 430 (3201 Arch Street) and on Thursday, July 24, at the same time and location.

Women's Smoking Cessation Program for Faculty and Staff

Faculty and staff are invited to join a free support group to help them quit smoking. Human Resources has partnered with Drexel's Stop Smoking Programs to allow women to come together to support each other throughout the process of quitting. A special emphasis is provided on issues of weight management and stress reduction.

Sessions will take place every Wednesday for six weeks, beginning on July 23, 2008, from noon to 1 p.m. in the HR/Comptroller Conference Room, 4th floor, 3201 Arch Street. Participants are invited to bring their lunch.

Smoking cessation programs for men will begin shortly.

IRT to Host "Institute on Innovation in Training and Teaching
"

The Office of Information Resources and Technology will sponsor a two-day "Institute on Innovation in Training and Teaching" on Thursday and Friday, September 11 and 12, 2008. 

Registration information and a detailed agenda are posted at http://www.drexel.edu/irt/innovation. Save the dates and register early as space is limited.

The Institute will provide courses for trainers and educators interested in moving their instruction online. Classes will meet the needs of those just beginning to move to training or teaching online as well as experienced online instructors who seek instruction in advanced media integration. The Institute will offer eight, three-hour courses on topics of interest to the corporate training sector, K-20 educators and lifelong learning professionals. It will highlight a wide variety of tools available for producing creative, quality online materials.
