Drexel Athletics Wins Silver Medal at NACMA Convention

The Drexel Athletics Department won a silver medal in promotions at the National Association of Collegiate Marketing Administrators (NACMA) convention in Orlando, Florida, on Thursday, June 14, 2007. Drexel won the award for the promotion t-shirt design category as part of the 16th annual convention.

Initiated in 2003, the NACMA Awards program honors outstanding achievement in marketing and promotions. Awards are presented in 16 categories, with each category divided into three groups based upon school size and conference affiliations to promote fairness. A total of 922 entries were received for the 2006-2007 year.

Drexel's promotional t-shirt, which read "Game Today" and was worn by athletics department employees on the day of the game, won the medal. The idea came from Sean Joyce, Drexel's corporate sales manager/special events. "We wanted to come up with an initiative to promote our sporting events," Joyce said. "It brought a lot of attention to the department and it seemed to add to the school spirit this past season. Students started asking about the availability of the shirts and we realized we had come up with a pretty good idea."
