NCCE to Present: "The War for Diverse and Global Talent"

Drexel will host the National Commission for Cooperative Education’s Tenth Annual Corporate Symposium, “The War for Diverse and Global Talent,” on Friday, June 27, 2008.

President Papadakis (above left) is chair of the National Commission for Cooperative Education. Symposium keynote speakers will be Raj J. Gupta (above center), former Drexel trustee and alum (MBA ’71) and chairman and CEO, Rohm and Haas Company, and Mark Schweiker (above right), president and CEO, Greater Philadelphia Chamber of Commerce.

The symposium will also feature a human resources “best practices” panel and a panel of university presidents.

Design & Merchandising Opening Reception Tonight

The Design & Merchandising Program in the Antoinette Westphal College of Media Arts & Design will host an opening reception for “Style Tribes v6.0” today, June 11, 2008, from 6 to 9 p.m. at International House (3701Chestnut Street).

Through their coursework in Visual Merchandising II, six Design & Merchandising students explored the tribal connection between fashion, music and social groups. Their research led them to fashion "tribes," categorized as Preppies, Hipsters and Gamers.

Style Tribes v6.0 demonstrates how style creates a connection between people regardless of gender, race, religion or geography. Anne Cecil, Design & Merchandising program director, is the curator for the exhibition, which runs through August 22.

The show and reception are free and open to the public.

Viewing hours at International House are from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. daily.

Benefits Buzz: "Snooze, You Lose"

Human Resources will host "Snooze, You Lose... Join the 403b Retirement Plan" today, June 11, 2008, from 2 to 3 p.m., in room 105, Bellet Building, (1505 Race Street).

The next Benefits Buzz session, "Tuition Remission," will be held on Wednesday, June 18, 2008 at the same time and location.

Benefits Buzz is an informal weekly meeting that answers questions and provides information about Drexel benefits. Human Resources representatives will be available to present information and answer questions from faculty and staff.

Fourth Annual iSchool Senior Design Challenge Today

The Fourth Annual iSchool Senior Design Challenge, sponsored by the College of Information Science and Technology, the iSchool at Drexel, will be held today, June 11, 2008, at 5 p.m. in Behrakis Grand Hall (32nd and Chestnut Streets).

The iSchool Senior Design Challenge is a showcase of the year's best information systems design projects created by teams of iSchool seniors. Each project is a novel information systems design that offers a solution to a real-world problem or proposes a beneficial new service. The five best projects of the year have been pre-selected by faculty members to participate in the Challenge.

This event is free and open to the Drexel community.

In Memoriam: John J. Clark

John J. Clark, Ph.D. (above), retired professor of economics, died of pneumonia Saturday at White Horse Village in Newtown Square. He was 83.

Dr. Clark joined the faculty at Drexel in 1969. He retired in 1990 as dean of the graduate school at the LeBow College of Business.

He authored or coauthored 14 books on business education and finance, published numerous articles, and was a former consultant to the Savings Bank Association of New York. Dr. Clark was also an authority on military history and strategy. Dr. Clark earned a bachelor's degree from St. John's University, a master's degree in economics from Baruch College of the City University of New York and a doctorate in economics and finance from New York University.

He is survived by his wife, Margaret Newton Clark and a daughter, Patricia Ann Bowman.

A funeral Mass will be said at 11 a.m. Thursday at Mary Magdalen Church, 2400 N. Providence Rd., Media, Pa. Friends may call from 9:30 a.m. Burial will be in SS. Peter and Paul Cemetery, Marple Township, Pa.

Memorial donations may be made to the U.S. Naval Institute, 291 Wood Rd., Annapolis, Md. 21402.
