Student Award Winners to Receive $500 Each
at Commencement for Best Suggestions

During the University City Main Campus commencement on Saturday, June 11, 2005, President Papadakis will award $500 cash awards to 2005 graduates Joseph Dougherty and Rachel Pannepacker for having the best undergraduate student suggestions that have been implemented by the University. Both awards will be presented at the noon ceremony.

Dougherty, an IST major, suggested that the University incorporate customer service training in the new employee orientation. This concept is a key component of the University's new StudentsFirst initiative. Pannepacker, a communication major, recommended that the University offer credit counseling and other financial management services to students. Drexel now includes topics on financial management in its mandatory UNIV 101 course.

Dougherty and Pannepacker emailed their suggestions to President Papadakis, who invites undergraduate students to send their suggestions for improving the University to his email address, papadakis@drexel.edu.

Emergency Call Boxes Provide Direct Link to Public Safety

Drexel's department of public safety has strategically placed blue emergency call boxes in and around campus for safety and convenience. The emergency call boxes, when activated, automatically contact a 24-hour public safety dispatcher, notifying the dispatcher of the caller's exact location. Students and staff are encouraged to learn the location of the emergency call boxes and to use them for all security-related and emergency communications.

To operate an emergency call box press the red button, wait for the dispatcher to answer and in a calm voice provide the dispatcher with as much information as possible.

To learn more about being safe in and around the Drexel campus, visit the public safety Web site at http://www.drexel.edu/admin/publicsafety/homepage.html.
