DUCoM to Present Faculty Development Day
The Drexel University College of Medicine’s seventh annual Faculty Development Day will take place on Friday, June 6, 2008, from 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Student Activities Center, Queen Lane Meidcal Campus (2900 Queen Lane).

Join the Launch of the Great Leatherback Turtle Race II
Students, faculty and staff are invited to celebrate the launch of the Great Turtle Race II today, June 2, 2008, from 1 to 1:30 p.m. in the Great Court, Main Building (32nd and Chestnut Streets).
Dr. James Spotila, L.D. Betz Chair Professor of Environmental Science and director of the Center for Biodiversity and Conservation in the Department of Bioscience and Biotechnology, is a co-organizer of the race that will monitor eleven satellite-tagged leatherback sea turtles as they race across the Pacific Ocean. Viewers can learn all about the race, sponsors and turtles at http://www.greatturtlerace.com. The race is being launched to increase awareness around the world for the critically endangered leatherback turtle.
Each turtle is named for a sponsor. Drexel will be represented by Drexelina II. The Department of Bioscience and Biotechnology will mark the launch of the race with a mock race that will feature students dressed in leatherback turtle costumes racing from a beach side on one end of the Great Court to the finish line on the other side. Obstacles along the way will represent the real-life challenges that leatherback turtles will face on their journey across the pacific, such as plastic bags, fishnets and sharks. Judges will choose the best leatherback costume.

Athletics to Offer Adult Tennis Clinics
The Department of Athletics will offer a session of weekly tennis clinics for adults of all skill levels on Wednesday nights from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Vidas Athletic Complex (43rd Street and Powelton Avenue).
The session will begin on Wednesday, June 4 and continue through Wednesday, July 9, 2008.
The fee is $20 for two hours. Clinics will be canceled if it is raining.
Learn drills, acquire new skills and play doubles with and against some of the current Dragons tennis players. These clinics will offer opportunities to socialize, meet new tennis partners and help support Drexel Tennis at the same time.

Donate Used Graphing Calculators to Underprivileged Students
Phi Sigma Pi and Teach for America are collecting used graphing calculators to distribute to underprivileged high school students. These students will take AP calculus next year but cannot afford the calculators.
Individuals who are no longer using their graphing calculators can donate them to students who will use them on a daily basis.
Collection boxes are located at the front desk of each residence hall until 5 p.m. on Friday, June 6, 2008 and in the Honors Lounge, 5th floor, MacAlister Hall (33rd and Chestnut Streets), until the end of finals.

Committee of Seventy Report Highlights Drexel's Volunteer Support
Dr. Jane Bryan, director of libraries, and Dr. Mark Greenberg, dean of Pennoni Honors College, co-chairs of Drexel Votes 2008, announced the results of a report from the Committee of Seventy highlighting Drexel’s involvement in getting out the vote on the Pennsylvania Primary held April 22.
The Committee of Seventy is a non-partisan organization that works to improve the Philadelphia region by demanding ethical conduct of public officials, promoting government efficiency, educating citizens and safeguarding elections.
Drexel is prominently mentioned as a partner in the report. Only 1.23% of voting irregularities occurred in the 24th ward, where the bulk of Drexel volunteers served. The most common problems indicated in the report were with registration and disability access.

Fellowships Roundtable and Info Session Tomorrow
A fellowships roundtable and information session will be held on Tuesday, June 3, 2008, from 5 to 6 p.m. in room 2019, MacAlister Hall (33rd and Chestnut Streets).
Drexel students have won prestigious fellowship awards this year, including Fulbright Scholarships, National Science Foundation Graduate Research Fellowships (NSF GRFP), the Goldwater Scholarship, the National Security Education Program (NSEP) Boren Award, the Gates Millennium Scholarship, the World Bank Margaret McNamara Memorial Fund award and the Science, Mathematics, Research for Transformation (SMART) Department of Defense Award.
These awards and others like them can pay for students' undergraduate education and graduate education and send students across the globe on a self-defined research or study program. They sometimes pay stipends for living expenses as well.
Interested students who want to hear how these individuals received these awards and scholarships and how they can do it, too, should come to the fellowships roundtable and information session, which will feature some of Drexel's current award winners.
Drexel's new fellowships coordinator will also be present.
All Drexel students from all colleges and degree levels are welcome.

Multicultural Conference and Graduates' Reunion
The 13th multicultural conference "Embracing Multicultural Contributions to Enrich Our Communities," and graduates' reunion of the PRIME (Partners Reaching to Improve Multicultural Effectiveness) Institute, Drexel University College of Medicine, is scheduled for Friday, June 6 and Saturday, June 7, 2008 at International House (3701 Chestnut Street).
This event is open to the public. The $30 fee covers the program, lunches and receptions. (Fee is $5 per day with a student I.D.).
The conference focuses on immigration in education, human resources, employment, health and intergenerational dynamics. Participants will share intercultural perspectives on issues, challenges and resources, as the PRIME Institute network of affiliates and friends, including the Welcoming Center and the Center for Literacy, showcase expertise and programs applied to these areas.
Each day will feature an improv troupe to engage participants in sharing and resolving cross-cultural challenges: On Friday, the troupe will be Playback for Change and on Saturday it will be InterAction Theatre.
Workshops will also be presented.

Peer Mentors for European Student Leaders Program
Drexel will host 20 student leaders from Denmark, Netherlands, France, Germany, Norway, Spain and the UK for a five-week leadership development program that includes communication skills, leadership training and service learning. It also includes an integrated set of site visits, trips and special events that include intercultural communications training and cultural activities.

The College of Arts and Sciences and International Area Studies will present "Leadership and the Future of the United Nations: A U.S. Perspective" with Hugh Dugan on Wednesday, June 4, 2008 from 4 to 6 p.m. in the University Club, 6th floor, MacAlister Hall (33rd and Market Streets).
