IEEE to Present Comedian Today: "Technically Funny"
The Drexel chapter of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers, the Business and Engineering Society, the Drexel chapter of the American Institute of Chemical Engineers and the Society of Women Engineers, will present "Technically Funny" today, May 29, 2008 at 6 p.m. in room 113, Stratton Hall (32nd and Chestnut Streets).
Don McMillan (above), an engineering comedian, is "Technically Funny." Before he became a nationally known stand-up comedian, McMillan spent 10 years as an engineer at IBM, AT&T and VLSI Technology. His show is funny, smart and clean, and he just might be the only comedian who works in PowerPoint!
Complimentary popcorn and beverages will be served.

Save the Date: CoE to Host First Annual Film Festival
The College of Engineering will present its first annual film festival on June 5, 2008 at 5 p.m. at Mitchell Auditorium, Edmund D. Bossone Research Enterprise Center (Market Street between 31st and 32nd Streets).
Submissions for the film festival are due no later than Friday, May 30, 2008 at 5 p.m. in the Office of Students Services, Suite 155, University Crossings.
The event will feature screenings of the top eight films, and audience members will have an opportunity to vote for their favorite film. An expert panel of judges will determine winners.
Prizes include Best Buy gift cards: First Place - $1,500; Second Place - $1,000; Third Place - $750.
Popcorn, cotton candy, candy bars, and other refreshments will be served.

Architecture Lecture Today: "White Towers Revisited"
The Antoinette Westphal College of Media Arts & Design will present a lecture “White Towers Revisited” by Paul Hirshorn, head of the Department of Architecture and Interiors, today, May 29, 2008 at 6 p.m. at Stein Auditorium, Nesbitt Hall (33rd and Market Streets).
Hirshorn will discuss mid-20th century signs and symbolism in commercial vernacular architecture represented in the design of White Towers fast-food restaurants.
Hirshorn wrote White Towers with Steven Izenour in the early 1970s, and it was subsequently published by MIT Press in 1979. MIT Press has reissued the book.
This event is open to the public and is worth one AIA/CES learning unit.

New Jersey Collegiate Career Day Today
The New Jersey Collegiate Career Day will take place today, May 29, 2008, from 9:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. on the New Brunswick campus of Rutgers University (65 Davidson Road, Piscataway).
This career day provides an opportunity to meet with 250 employers offering full-time and internship opportunities. It’s open to any college student or graduate. Students and graduates may enter their resume free of charge into the electronic database.

iSchool Lecture Today: "Training the Informationist"
The College of Information Science and Technology, the iSchool at Drexel, will present "Training the Informationist" today, May 29, 2008 at 12:30 p.m. in room 14, Rush Building (33rd Street, north of Market Street).
Nancy Roderer (above), Johns Hopkins University, will be the speaker.
A trend in academic and medical libraries is the provision of more in-depth information support to faculty and students. To provide this support, knowledge of both LIS and the subject matter is essential. This presentation will explore this trend as an evolution of digital library developments and describe the experimentation that is occurring, especially in medical environments. A key question is: what kind of training is required for the informationist?

Panhellenic Council to Host Mental Health Program Today
The Panhellenic Council will host Ross Szabo in a lecture for Mental Health Awareness Month today, May 29, 2008 at 7 p.m. at the Main Building Auditorium (32nd and Chestnut Streets).
Doors open at 6:30 p.m.
Szabo is one of the youngest speakers represented by CAMPUSPEAK, the nation's leading provider of educational speakers to college campuses and organizations. Through his speaking appearances, Szabo hopes to eradicate the stereotypes associated with mental health problems through education and by opening the lines of communication among America's youth.
This event is free. There will be giveaways at the door as well as refreshments.

Computer Science and CoE to Present Maplesoft Talks Today
The Department of Computer Science and College of Engineering will host two talks about Maplesoft in engineering and education today, May 29, 2008.
The first talk, "Clickable Math in Maple, with Engineering Overtones," with Robert Lopez, professor emeritus, Rose-Hulman Institute, will begin at 10 a.m. at the Mitchell Auditorium of the Edmund D. Bossone Research Enterprise Center (Market Street between 31st and 32nd Streets).
The second talk, "Innovations in Engineering Analysis, Design and Simulation," with Laurent Bernardin, chief scientist, Maplesoft, be held from 2 to 3 p.m. in room 240, LeBow Engineering Center (31st and Market Streets).
These talks will highlight new uses and features of the Maple Computer Algebra system and the use of Maple in mathematics education.

Lecture Today: Medical Care for Elderly, Suffering or Dying Patients
The Spring 2008 Great Works Symposium (UNIV 241) on "Modern Medicine" will present a guest lecture by Dr. Florence Gelo on current issues in medical care for elderly, suffering or dying patients today, May 29, 2008, from 6 to 7:20 p.m. in room 108, Disque Hall (32nd Street between Market and Chestnut Streets).
In an age of high-tech medical interventions, the most important treatment for some patients is simple, compassionate bedside care. Dr. Florence Gelo, associate professor, Department of Family, Community and Preventive Medicine, will discuss many aspects of her work at the Drexel University College of Medicine.

Dance Ensemble's "Catalyst" Performances to Begin Tonight
The Drexel Dance Ensemble will present “Catalyst, “ its final concert of the 2007-08 performance season beginning today, May 29 through Saturday, May 31, 2008 at 8 p.m. in Mandell Theater (33rd and Chestnut Streets).
The performances will showcase works by seven student choreographers in a variety of genres including jazz, hip-hop and modern. The concerts will also feature the premiere of new works by Dr. Miriam Giguere, director of the Drexel Dance Program.

AAGA to Present Arts Leader Ben Cameron Tonight
The Arts Administration Graduate Student Association will host a presentation by Ben Cameron (above), "Engaging the Next Generation of Leaders," today, May 29, 2008 at 6:30 p.m. at Mitchell Auditorium in the Bossone Research Enterprise Center (Market Street between 31st and 32nd Street).
A former theater professional, frequent public speaker and arts activist, Cameron is program director of the arts at the Doris Duke Charitable Foundation in New York City. He will address the challenges and opportunities facing emerging leaders in the arts and cultural sector.
This event is co-sponsored by the Antoinette Westphal College of Media Arts & Design, the Greater Philadelphia Cultural Alliance and the Philadelphia Cultural Management Initiative, a program of the Philadelphia Center for Arts and Heritage, funded by the Pew Charitable Trusts and administered by the University of the Arts.
The lecture is free and open to the public.
