Spring Jam 2005 Tomorrow!

Drexel's Spring Jam Festival featuring Unwritten Law will be held tomorrow, May 14 from 3 - 11 p.m. in the Quad. The first 800 students through the doors will receive free Ben and Jerry's ice cream.

Come out for special guest Straylight Run and support battle of the bands winners Kef, Wayne Hsu III and To The Moon.

Dr. Richard V. Homan Named DUCoM Dean


After a national search, Dr. Richard V. Homan (above) has been appointed dean and senior vice president for health affairs for the Drexel University College of Medicine, President Papadakis announced.

Dr. Homan will join Drexel on September 1 from the Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center in Lubbock, Texas, where he has been the dean of the School of Medicine since 2001 and vice president for clinical affairs since 2003.

Dr. Homan has been a member of the Texas Tech faculty since 1989, when he joined the University as assistant professor in the Department of Family and Community Medicine. He was named associate professor with tenure in 1993 and professor with tenure in 2001.

At Texas Tech, Dr. Homan has held numerous positions, including the Paul and Eva Braddock Chair in the Department of Family and Community Medicine for the Texas Tech Health Sciences Center's Lubbock, El Paso, Amarillo and Odessa academic campuses (1994-2001); associate dean for clinical affairs and finance (2001); and dean of the Graduate School of Biomedical Sciences (2001-03). Prior to joining Texas Tech, Dr. Homan was a clinical assistant professor at the Penn State University School of Medicine in Hershey (1987-89).

Cheer on the Dragons at the Dad Vail Regatta


Join Drexel University alumni, crew members and parents at the Dad Vail Regatta this Saturday, May 14, 2005. Grab your lawn chairs, and cheer on Drexel crew at the Drexel tent near the finish line.

See the Dragons compete at the largest collegiate regatta in this U.S. classic. A barbeque will be held from noon - 3 p.m. at $15 for adults and $8 for children under 10. RSVP at 215-895-ALUM or http://www.drexel.edu/ia/events.

Spend the day at the races. Races begin at 7 a.m. Parking info and course map are available at http://www.dadvail.org/. Up-to-date Drexel race information will be available at the tent.

Dragon Day Coming Monday, May 16


The University's chapter of the Public Relations Student Society of America (PRSSA) invites students, faculty and staff to Drexel Dragon Day on Monday, May 16, 2005 from noon-2 p.m. in the Quad (33rd Street between Market and Chestnut Streets). The rain location is Behrakis Grand Hall (32nd and Chestnut Streets). Free pretzels, water ice, beverages and Drexel Bookstore gear will be given out.

More than 20 student organizations will compete for the $1,000 cash top prize in the Create Your Own Dragon Contest. Prizes will be awarded to organizations with the best submissions. The competition also includes $500 second place and $250 third place cash prizes.

Academic Bistro


The Department of Hospitality Studies' Academic Bistro restaurant is open for lunch on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday during the 2005 spring term. Dinner is available on Tuesday evenings and, during the senior design class of 2005 exhibition period, on Thursday evenings.

The Academic Bistro is operated by hospitality management and culinary arts majors who develop the menus and prepare and serve the food. Menus for the week of May 16, 2005 are as follows:

Drexel Chapter of English National
Honor Society Inducts New Members


The Omicron Rho Chapter of Sigma Tau Delta, the English National Honor Society, will hold its induction ceremony today, May 13, 2005 from 3-5 p.m. in the Living Arts Lounge in the Creese Student Union Complex (32nd and Chestnut Streets). The event is free and open to students, faculty and staff.

The students winning prizes for freshman writing and being inducted are Angela Cetta, Lauren Gilbert, Moira Hunter, Sarah McGovern, Gerri Mahn, Alyssa Maslin, Andrew Newhall, Manna Pourrezaei, Stephanie Polesinski and Amy Weaver.
