SCDC to Help Students Improve Resumes


The Steinbright Career Development Center (SCDC) wants to help students improve their current resumes.

On Friday, May 12, 2006, from 10 a.m.-4 p.m., students can take their resumes to the Faculty Club on the sixth floor of MacAlister Hall (33rd and Chestnut Streets) and receive intensive feedback from SCDC coordinators specializing in a variety of majors. Resumes can be put into the SCDC online system. Coordinators will help students improve their resumes' structures, construct better job descriptions and create solid formatting.

The event is free and refreshments will be served. To register for a time slot, visit the SCDC office at 3201 Arch Street or call the front staff at 215-895-2185.

The Son of Arlecchino: Final Performances


The final performances of the Drexel Players production of The Son of Arlecchino, will be held Thursday, May 11-Saturday, May 13, 2006 at Mandell Theater (33rd and Chestnut Streets).

Tickets are $5 for students, faculty and staff and $10 for the general public. There is a special $1 ticket offer for Drexel students on Thursday, May 11. Seating is general admission. All show times are 8 p.m.

Writing Program and Writing Center to Hold Final Faculty Forum


The University Writing Program and Drexel Writing Center will hold the final Faculty Forum in their series, "Writing in the Disciplines: Changing Standards," on Wednesday, May 24, 2006 from noon-1 p.m. in the Drexel Writing Center Seminar Room, MacAlister Hall room 0032 (33rd and Chestnut Streets).

Dr. Jeffrey Salvage (above) from the computer science department is the keynote speaker. In addition to teaching and textbook writing in the field of computer science, Salvage is a race walker and mountain climber and his discussion will combine teaching computer science with writing and adventure sports. A discussion will follow the talk.

Painted Bride Quarterly Seeks Event Volunteers


Painted Bride Quarterly (PBQ) needs 12 volunteers to assist with a performance featuring recording artist Rosanne Cash (above left) and Rolling Stone editor Anthony DeCurtis (above) on Thursday, May 11, 2006 from 6-11 p.m. at World Cafe Live (31st and Walnut Streets).

The event is free with online registration. PBQ needs six volunteers to help with check-in for those who registered online. PBQ also needs six volunteers to help with the sale of Cash's and DeCurtis' CDs and books at the event.

LeBow College to Present "Charles Fishman and the Wal-Mart Effect"


Lebow College of Business and Fast Company's Philadelphia Company of Friends will present "Industry Perspectives: Charles Fishman and the Wal-Mart Effect" tonight, May 10, 2006 at 6 p.m. in Matheson Hall room 109 (32nd and Market Streets).

The leaders at Wal-Mart squeeze retailers, manufacturers, wages and jobs in the pursuit of low prices. What is the effect on the culture of shopping, the shape of communities, and the environment? Technology Showcase Scheduled for May 19


IRT invites faculty and staff to attend a Technology Showcase on Friday, May 19, 2006 from 10 a.m. - 2 p.m. in the Living Arts Lounge (adjacent to Mandell Theater in MacAlister Hall, 33rd and Chestnut Streets).

This unique and entertaining program will demonstrate technologies available at Drexel. These tools are not restricted to classroom use but have application for staff training, customer support, and professional collaboration.

See how hand-held responders can be used for quick group assessment or survey results, how Camtasia and Impatica can be used to prepare short training video/audio presentations for new staff or faculty, and how many digital video, audio and text file formats can be automatically encoded and hosted for Web access, podcasting or webcasting. Learn how voice annotation can be used to "personalize" assignment correction.

Biomed to Hold Seminar on "Fifty Years in Medical Ultrasound"


The School of Biomedical Engineering, Science and Health Systems will hold the John M. Reid Lecture on "Fifty years in Medical Ultrasound." The seminar will be presented by a panel of experts led by the biomedical ultrasound pioneer Dr. John M. Reid on Friday, May 12, 2006 at 4 p.m. in 103 Disque Hall (32nd Street between Chestnut and Market Streets.)

The seminar will illustrate the initial stages and provide an overview of what future holds. In the panel:

The panel will conclude with Dr. Reid's lecture on his reflections of 50 years in biomedical ultrasound. Dr. Reid, Calhoun Professor Emeritus, is internationally recognized as a pioneer of ultrasound imaging.
