Earth Day Panel Discussion: “Campus Carbon Emissions: Measuring and Planning”

Sponsored by Campus Sustainability Working Group and DU Committee for SustainabilityA rapidly evolving set of challenges and opportunities is developing from climate change and the greenhouse-gas (GHG) emissions that are causing it. Public expectations, emerging regulatory policies and fiscal constraints are driving universities to decrease their carbon footprint more than ever before. A university's strategy of mitigation and adaptation on its own campuses should be coordinated with regional planning to minimize the chance of unintended negative consequences and reduce the risks of climate change for everyone.

Earth Day Lecture: "Global Warming: What's Going On Here and What Do I Do About It?"

Sponsored by Drexel Sierra ClubThe Drexel Sierra Club, along with Drexel Green and the Department of Bioscience and Biotechnology invite all members of the University community to attend a lecture in honor of Earth Day 2008. John Bullard, the president of Sea Education Association (SEA) will give a talk "Global Warming: What's Going On Here and What Do I Do About It?"
The Sea Education Association teaches college students and others about the oceans with a 12-week SEA semester. Students spend six weeks on campus in coursework on oceanography, nautical science and maritime studies. They then board one of two 135' tall ships for six weeks of sailing and research in the Atlantic or Pacific Ocean. Drexel Green Community Presentations: “Building Systems and Energy Use”

“Climate Change: The Health Response”

Dr. Howard Frumkin, director of the Agency for Toxic Substances and Disease Registry at the National Center of Environmental Health will present a lecture "Climate Change: The Health Response."Dr. Frumkin is an internist, environmental and occupational medicine specialist and epidemiologist. The NCEH/ATSDR works to maintain and improve the health of the American people by promoting a healthy environment and by preventing premature death and avoidable illness and disability caused by toxic substances and other environmental hazards.
The Green Screening: An Inconvenient Truth
7 to 9 p.m. on The Quad (between Chestnut and Market Streets and 32nd and 33rd Streets)
Sponsored by Drexel Sierra ClubAn Inconvenient Truth is a documentary on Al Gore's campaign to make the issue of global warming a recognized problem worldwide. A speaker will lead a discussion of the movie.

Sponsored by Drexel Sierra ClubThe expo will present various green technologies including hybrid car technology with PhillyCarShare, featuring a hybrid Toyota and information about the Drexel Smart House. The Sierra Club will also present environmental awareness information.

Earth Week Concert: “Rock 4 Roots”
7 to 10:30 p.m. at the Armory (33rd Street, north of Market Street)
Sponsored by Drexel Sierra Club“Rock 4 Roots,” is the culmination of all the events taking place during Earth Week. Attendees are required to present proof of identification at the door and can receive an admission ticket by bringing in 2 recyclable items (glass bottles, aluminum cans, and plastics labeled with a 1 or 2). If attendees bring more than the minimal requirement for admission, they will receive a raffle ticket.
Various prizes, including a Martin Guitar package and $100 in Ultima Funds, will be given away in the raffle.
