Drexel’s Going Green: Get on the Bus and Help Out Tomorrow
The Division of Student Life and Administrative Services, the President’s Office and countless others across campus have been working hard in support of Drexel Green.
There is still time to help cleanup Philadelphia.
Drexel is providing buses, shirts, breakfast and CCE hours for the clean-up. Shuttles will depart from Creese Student Center at 8:30 a.m. and return around 2 p.m.
Drexel Green is going for 100 percent participation. For those who can’t attend, ask a friend to fill in. This is a great opportunity for participants to demonstrate how much they care about the environment.

Drexel to Host “Chill-out: Campus Solutions to Global Warming" Webcast
The second annual “Chill-out: Campus Solutions to Global Warming” webcast will streams on Wednesday, April 16, 2008 from 7 to 8:15 p.m. on the Drexel Web site, http://www.drexel.edu.
The University is one of 125 across the country that will host the webcast in support of The National Wildlife Federation. The webcast highlights the winning schools from the NWF Chill-out Competition, which recognizes schools that are doing an exemplary job of reducing global warming pollution on their campuses.
The mission of the National Wildlife Federation is to inspire Americans to protect wildlife for our children's future.

Baiada Center to Kick-off Business Plan Development Workshop Series Tomorrow
The Laurence A. Baiada Center for Entrepreneurship in Technology will kick-off its spring/summer workshop series on Saturday, April 5, 2008 at 9:30 a.m. with a continental breakfast in the Baiada Center (3225 Arch Street, ground floor). Instruction will begin promptly at 10 a.m.
The Baiada Center's Business Plan Development Workshops are designed for Drexel student teams who are developing business plans for submission to the 2008 Business Plan Competition. Individual and group support is provided by the Baiada team of mentors throughout the delivery of this series.
Winning teams in the 2008 competition will be awarded $1,000 in cash and may be given the opportunity to compete in the Baiada Incubator Competition.

Philadelphia Writers Conference This Sunday: Those Critical First Pages
A Philadelphia Writer's Conference with book editor Kathryn Craft (above) will be a featured event on Sunday, April 6, 2008, from 2 to 3:30 p.m. in the Anthony J. Drexel Picture Gallery, located on 3rd floor, Main Building (32nd and Chestnut Streets).
Books are sold by their beginnings. Book editor Kathryn Craft will show examples and run exercises on writing great openings. Craft is the founder of Writing-Partner.com, a manuscript evaluation and editing service. She has been a two-term president of the Greater Lehigh Valley Writers Group. She has contributed hundreds of articles to newspapers in the Greater Philadelphia area and has recently completed her second novel.
This lecture is free and open to the public. No pre-registration is needed.

Deadline for Submissions to CoAS’ Research Day Today
The College of Arts and Sciences’ Research Day will take place on Monday, April 14, 2008, from 12:30 to 5 p.m. in Behrakis Grand Hall, Creese Student Center (32nd and Chestnut Streets).
Deadline for submission of abstracts is today, April 4 at 5 p.m.
All students are encouraged to submit their work for presentation. Abstracts should be submitted online at: https://surveys.drexel.edu/TakeSurvey.asp?SurveyID=9418772J9l45G .
Behrakis Grand Hall will be available for students to set up their posters from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. on Monday, April 14 and the event will get underway at 12:30 p.m.

The iSchool at Drexel to Host Open House This Weekend
The College of Information Science and Technology, the iSchool at Drexel, will host its Spring Graduate Open House for prospective students on Saturday, April 5, 2008, from 10 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. at the Rush Building (30 N. 33rd Street).

Center City Campus Free Movie Tonight: Enchanted
The Office of Student Life will show the movie Enchanted today, April 4, 2008 at 7 p.m. in Geary B Auditorium on the first floor of the New College Building (245 N. 15th Street).
In the movie Enchanted, starring Amy Adams, Patrick Dempsey and Susan Sarandon, a classic Disney fairytale lands in modern-day New York City when a storybook princess is thrust into present day Manhattan by an evil queen. Her prince follows after to rescue her, but her journey causes her to change her views on life and love after meeting a handsome lawyer.
This movie screening is free for all students and their guests.

Men’s and Women’s Lacrosse Teams Take the Field This Weekend
The men’s lacrosse team will put its No.10 national ranking on the line when it hosts conference rival Robert Morris on Saturday, April 5, 2008 at 1 p.m. at the Vidas Athletic Complex (43rd Street and Powelton Avenue).
Admission to the game is $5 and free for children under 12. Students with a valid Drexel ID also receive free admission to the contest. Parking is free.
The women’s lacrosse team will host its conference rival Towson on Sunday, April 6 at 1 p.m. at Vidas Field at the Vidas Athletic Complex (43rd Street and Powelton Avenue).
Admission is free.

The Panhellenic Council Will Host Sorority Cookie Bake-Off Tonight
The Panhellenic Council will host a sorority cookie bake-off today, April 4, 2008, from 7 to 9 p.m. at each of Drexel's five sorority houses: Alpha Sigma Alpha, Delta Phi Epsilon, Delta Zeta, Phi Mu, Phi Sigma Sigma on 34th Street and Powelton Avenue.
Come and taste a variety of home-baked cookies and vote for the best cookies. Members of the sororities will be on hand to show students the inside of their houses and talk to them about Greek Life at the University.

Philadelphia Division I Hosts 7th Annual Charity 5K Run Tomorrow
The athletics and recreation programs of the Philadelphia Division I universities invite the Drexel community to participate in the 7th Annual Charity 5K Run beginning at 9 a.m. on Saturday, April 5, 2008 on Kelly Drive.
Registration is at 7 a.m. at Lloyd Hall on Boathouse Row. The run will begin and end at Lloyd Hall. This year all proceeds will benefit Coaches vs. Cancer.
Attendees are encouraged to show Drexel pride by wearing Drexel colors and coming out to participate with peers from around the city in this healthy, fun event.

Renowned Photojournalist to Speak About His Career
The Photography Program in the Antoinette Westphal College of Media Arts & Design will present a lecture with Alex Webb, renowned international photojournalist, on Tuesday, April 8, 2008 at 7 p.m. at Stein Auditorium in Nesbitt Hall (33rd and Market Streets).
Webb will show images and discuss how his work, spanning thirty years and six continents, has landed in the pages of National Geographic, Life and The New York Times Magazine.
He has published seven books including: Crossings: Photographs from the U.S. Mexican Border, and most recently, Istanbul: City of a Hundred Names. Webb is the recipient of a Guggenheim Fellowship, a National Endowment for the Arts Fellowship and the Leica Medal of Excellence.
The lecture is free and open to the public.

Don’t own a bike? Need a form of quick transportation to run an errand or for recreation? Drexel Bike Share is a new initiative as part of the Power of Ten program that will provide bikes for short-term usage—free of charge.
Drexel Bike Share is now available to students, faculty and staff to check out a bike for a few hours or a weekend. The Bike Share program is administered through the Parking Services Office, located in suite 124, Drexel Parking Garage (34th and Market Streets), where bikes are checked out and returned.
Become a Drexel Bike Share member today by visiting http://www.drexel.edu/parking and clicking on "Bike Share." After reading and agreeing to the user policy, complete the forms to become a member and start using the bikes for free.
The bike model is TREK Lime. There are 10 bikes currently available to share. Each has an adjustable seat, coaster break and an automatic three-speed gear system.

Attorney/Author to Discuss Her Book Ivy Briefs: True Tales of a Neurotic Law Student
The Steinbright Career Development Center, the College of Law and the Magnificent Minds program will present a talk by Martha Kimes, Esq. (above), author of Ivy Briefs: True Tales of a Neurotic Law Student on Thursday, April 10 at 4 p.m. in room 140, College of Law Building (3320 Market Street).
Kimes is a 1997 graduate of Columbia Law School and her book has been hailed as a “modern day One-L,” offering a witty, insightful and at times poignant look at the law school admission process, life at an elite law school and the transition from law school to practice.
The talk will be followed by a book signing. Copies of Kimes’ book will be available for purchase at the event.
Refreshments will be served. Seating is on a first come, first served basis and is limited to 75.

Performance to Conclude First-ever Philadelphia Dance Conference at Drexel
The Dance Program of the Antoinette Westphal College of Media Arts & Design will present a concert featuring works by José Limón on April 7, 2008, at 7 p.m. in Mandell Theater (33rd and Chestnut Streets).
This concert will close the Philadelphia Dance Conference 2008: Limón Centennial Celebration, a two-day forum organized by the Drexel Dance Program.
Jose Limón (1908-1972) was a crucial figure in the development of modern dance. His powerful dancing shifted perceptions of the male dancer, while his choreography continues to bring a dramatic vision of dance to audiences around the world.
Highlighted by a complete performance of Barren Sceptre by the Philadelphia-based company Dancefusion, the program will also include excerpts from Choreographic Offering, Psalm, Waldstein Sonata, and There Is a Time: A Time to Laugh/A Time to Dance.
The concert is open to the general public. Tickets are $5 and can be reserved by calling 215-895-ARTS.

The Philadelphia Chamber Music Society is offering free tickets to hear international soprano Juliane Banse (above) make her Philadelphia Chamber Music Society debut with Brian Zeger on the piano on Tuesday, April 8, 2008 at 8 p.m. in the Perelman Theater, Kimmel Center for the Performing Arts (260 South Broad Street).
The critics call Banse's singing "ravishing," her voice "awesome and alluring." For her Philadelphia Chamber Music Society debut, the 29-year-old soprano will perform songs by Mozart, Mendelssohn and Schumann.

Battle of the Burritos at Northside Market
The Battle of the Burritos will take place on Wednesday, April 16, 2008 at noon in front of Northside Market (34th and Race Streets).
Everyone is invited to come out and compete or see whose burritos have what it takes to win the grand prize of $100 in Ultima Funds. Burrito builders will compete against the new campus dining services executive chef, Robert "Bob" Jackson, and will be judged by a renowned panel of judges.
Advance registration is required for participation. The last day to register is Tuesday, April 15.

Skin Cancer Educational Study by Appointment
Fox Chase Cancer Center and the University will host a volunteer tanning study on Drexel's campus. Time and place for the volunteer visits are set up by making an appointment.
Volunteers should be adults ages 18-24 who do or have any of the following:
If volunteers meet these conditions, they may be eligible to participate in the educational/counseling survey and study. The investigators are Dr. Carolyn Heckman, Fox Chase Cancer Center, and Dr. Jackie Kloss, Department of Psychology, Drexel University.
Participants will have personalized photographic assessments. Compensation for time is $5-15 for each of four sessions and the opportunity to win a $50 raffle at each time-point, plus a small, possible bonus.

Center for Corporate Governance to Hold Academic Conference Today
The LeBow College of Business Center for Corporate Governance will hold its first day-long academic conference today, April 4, 2008 from 8:15 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. in the Paul Peck Alumni Center (32nd and Market Streets).
Six corporate governance working papers will be presented by professors from across the country at the conference. Presenters include Martijn Cremers of Yale University, Matthew Rhodes-Kropf of Columbia University and Brian J. Bushee and Michael Roberts of the University of Pennsylvania.
The Center for Corporate Governance conducts research to identify best practices in business governance and advocates excellence in corporate governance policies. Professor Ralph A. Walkling (above) , the first Christopher and Mary Stratakis Endowed Chair in Corporate Governance and Accountability at LeBow College, serves as executive director to the Center.
On April 3, Dr. Michael C. Jensen, Jesse Isidor Straus Professor of Business Administration, Emeritus, Harvard University, who is considered the "academic father of modern corporate governance," was presented the Center for Corporate Governance's first "Outstanding Leadership in Research in Corporate Governance Award" for his groundbreaking accomplishments. He also spoke to the University community and the Greater Philadelphia business community about corporate integrity and detailed how businesses can establish best practices in accountability.
