Asbury Ministry Hosts Student Supper and Worship Tonight

Asbury Ministry is sponsoring a new term kick-off with a free meal today, April 2, 2008 at 8 p.m. in room 24, MacAlister Hall (33rd and Chestnut Streets).

Following the free meal, there will be an informal, interactive and inclusive worship service at 9 p.m. in room 2019, MacAlister Hall. All are welcome.

University City Spring Resource Fair

The University City Spring Resource Fair is being held through Thursday, April 3, from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., and on Friday, April 4 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. in the Great Court of the Main Building (32nd and Chestnut Streets).

Representatives from the Office of Student Accounts, the Student Resource Center/Financial Aid Office and the University Registrar will be available for help and advice.

Benefits Buzz Today: "Snooze You Lose--Join the 403B Retirement Plan"

Human Resources will host "Snooze You Lose--Join the 403B Retirement Plan," today, April 2, 2008, from 1:30 to 2:30 p.m. in room 105, Bellet Building (1505 Race Street).

The next Benefits Buzz session, "The ABC's of Retiring," will be held on Wednesday, April 9, 2008 at the same time and location.

Benefits Buzz is an informal weekly meeting for answering questions and providing information about Drexel benefits. Human Resources representatives will be available to present information and answer questions from faculty and staff.

Department of Physics to Host Observatory Open House Tonight

The Department of Physics will host an open house today, April 2, 2008, at 8 p.m. at the Joseph R. Lynch Observatory, atop the Main Building (32nd and Chestnut Streets).

All members of the Drexel community (and friends) whether amateur astronomers or just those interested in star-gazing, are invited to come and see Saturn, Mars, the Pleiades, the Beehive and the Great Nebula in Orion, and check out two new hand-powered telescopes the University has acquired.

LeBow College to Offer Intensive GMAT Prep for Prospective Students

LeBow College of Business will offer an intensive course to assist prospective MBA students in preparing for the GMAT examination on the weekend of Saturday and Sunday, April 19 and 20, 2008, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. in Matheson Hall (32nd and Market Streets).

The College offers on and off-campus GMAT prep resources to help students boost their test performance. Past courses have helped students reduce test-taking anxieties and increase their scores. Prospective students are required to start a paper application with LeBow MBA Programs before registering for this course.

This weekend intensive course is $450. Fees are: $400 for the sessions and $50 for the books.

GMAT Advantage Credit: Reimbursement is available in the form of a tuition credit of $400 for those who attain a minimum score of 570, are admitted to LeBow College and enroll in a Drexel MBA program.

Deadline for Submissions to CoAS' Research Day This Friday

The College of Arts and Sciences' Research Day will take place on Monday, April 14, 2008 from 12:30 to 5 p.m. in Behrakis Grand Hall, Creese Student Center (32nd and Chestnut Streets).

Deadline for submission of abstracts is Friday, April 4 at 5 p.m.

All students are encouraged to submit their work for presentation. Abstracts should be submitted online at: https://surveys.drexel.edu/TakeSurvey.asp?SurveyID=9418772J9l45G.

Behrakis Grand Hall will be available for students to set up their posters from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. on Monday, April 14 and the event will get underway at 12:30 p.m.

Posters will be judged by faculty and student teams and prizes will be awarded in four divisions:

Architect Cameron Sinclair Lecture: "How Community Design Delivers More than Architecture"

Internationally renowned architect Cameron Sinclair (above) will present "How Community Design Delivers More Than Architecture," on Thursday, April 3, 2008 at 6 p.m. in Mandell Theater (33rd and Chestnut Streets).

Sinclair is visiting the Antoinette Westphal College of Media Arts & Design as the 2008 Rankin Scholar-in-Residence from Thursday, April 3 through Monday, April 7, 2008, presenting this lecture and a design workshop series open to students from across the University.

Sinclair, named by Fortune magazine as one of seven people making the world a better place, is the co-founder and executive director of Architecture for Humanity, a charitable organization that seeks architectural solutions to humanitarian crisis and brings design services to communities in need. He is currently working in a dozen countries, helping to find solutions for critical problems.

In addition, he is the recipient of the Lewis Mumford Award for Peace and the Design for Humanity Award of the Society of Interior Designers.

The lecture is free and open to the public.

Earth Day Project: Donate Your Old Sneakers for New Playgrounds

The Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) and the Community Alumni Network at Drexel University (CAN DU) invite students, faculty, staff, alumni and friends to donate unwanted athletic shoes (in any size, shape or form) to be recycled into playground surfaces. Drop-off for the sneakers is in the main lobby of the Daskalakis Athletic Center (33rd and Market Streets).

Sneaker donors will receive a complimentary bottle of FRED (a new bottled water product) as a thank-you for their thoughtfulness and eco-friendliness.

The Philadelphia Squash Racquets Association is reaching out to their membership to assist in this project, collecting used sneakers at all member clubs throughout the Delaware Valley. Drexel sponsors have offered to share the donated water with Squash Smarts, a program for underserved urban youth, in return.

National Forum on Women's Issues in Gastroenterology and Hepatology

The Drexel University College of Medicine Division of Gastroenterology and Hepatology is sponsoring its third National Forum on Women's Issues in Gastroenterology and Hepatology from Friday, April 4 through Sunday April 6, 2008, at the Radisson Plaza Warwick Hotel (1701 Locust Street).

This educational program focuses on gender-based issues specific to inflammatory bowel disease, motility disorders, endoscopic procedures and hepatobiliary diseases. Internationally renowned speakers will lead lectures and case-based breakout sessions.

Take Advantage of the Largest Academic Career Fair in the Region

All students and alumni are invited to participate in the Steinbright Career Development Center's Annual Spring Career Fair on Wednesday, April 9, 2008 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. in the Daskalakis Athletic Center (33rd and Market Streets).

More than 250 employers will meet with interested students and job candidates to talk with them about their companies and job opportunities.

The Steinbright Career Development Center encourages all students to participate in this excellent opportunity to conduct a proactive job search, research the competitive job market, target specific employers and develop future networking contacts.

Wingfest to Benefit Children's Miracle Network Today

Phi Mu Sorority will hold its Seventh Annual Wing Fest today, April 2, 2008 at noon on the Quad (between Chestnut and Market Streets and 32nd and 33rd Streets).

Last year, Phi Mu's Wing Fest raised over $1,300 for the Children's Miracle Network. This year Phi Mu has set a goal to raise $5,000. All money raised will be donated to Philadelphia 's local CMN hospital, The Children's Hospital of Pennsylvania.

Last year, Hahri Shin won by eating his way through 64 wings. The prizes this year include a night at the Sheraton and a gift certificate for dinner on the Spirit of Philadelphia. All participants will also receive a t-shirt after making their donations.

Children's Miracle Network – the alliance of premier hospitals for children – is a non-profit organization dedicated to saving and improving the lives of children by raising funds for children's hospitals across North America. Each year the 170 Children's Miracle Network hospitals provide medical care, life saving research, and preventative education to help millions of kids overcome diseases and injuries of every kind.
