Miss Philadelphia Pageant to Be Held at Drexel
Eighteen college-age women will be competing for more than $12,000 in scholarships as Drexel hosts the 83rd annual Miss Philadelphia Pageant on Saturday, March 20, 2004 at 8 p.m. in Mandell Theater (33rd and Chestnut Streets). Drexel student Amber Knauss (above), a psychology major in the College of Arts and Sciences, is among the contestants.
Drexel alumnus and KYW-3 meteorologist Tom Lamaine '86 will emcee the pageant. Judges include Dann Cuellar, WPVI reporter; Barbara Grant from the communications office of Mayor John Street; Darlene Deeley Malone, Miss Pennsylvania 1986; Jeff Gordon, PECO Energy marketing director; Claudette Jolin, traveling companion to Miss New Hampshire; Gerald Odom, Miss Kentucky Scholarship Pageant; and Charles Potash, Esq.
Organized in collaboration with the Office of Government and Community Relations, the pageant is a preliminary to the Miss Pennsylvania Pageant in June and Miss America Pageant. Miss Philadelphia winners from 1996, 1998, 1999, 2000, 2001 and 2002 will present a group performance. Margaret Mulherin, R.N., from St. Christopher's Hospital for Children, will receive this year's Miss Philadelphia Community Service Award.

Dr.
Lacovara to Present Patagonia Findings
at
New York City’s Famed Explorers Club
Dr. Kenneth Lacovara (above), associate professor of civil, architectural and environmental engineering and director of Drexel’s geology program, will present the findings from his recent expedition to Patagonia, Argentina this Saturday, March 20 at the Explorers Club 100th Anniversary Gala at the Waldorf-Astoria.

Public Health Grand Rounds: "Seen Any Public Health Lately?"
The School of Public Health will hold the grand rounds lecture "Seen Any Public Health Lately?" on Thursday, March 25, 2004 at 4:30 p.m. in New College Building lecture hall B (15th and Vine Streets).

Transplant Recipient of the Year
The American Liver Foundation
is honoring Andrea Boswell as its "Transplant Recipient
of the Year." Her transplant team includes Drs. Burckhardt Ringe
(above back left), Michael Moritz (above front left), and Gillian
Zeldin (above front right), faculty members of the Drexel University College
of Medicine and physicians with Drexel's Liver, Biliary and Pancreas Center
at Hahnemann University Hospital. Boswell became the program's first liver transplant
recipient in April 2002. She will be honored at this year's Recognition Gala
on March 27, 2004.
Physicians and staff at the Liver, Biliary and Pancreas Center treat patients
from the onset of their liver disease and throughout the medical management
of the disease, including complex surgeries, transplantation and beyond. For
