Student Counseling Center to Hold Post-Partum Depression 101 Workshop


The Student Counseling Center on the Center City Hahnemann Campus will hold the free workshop "Post-Partum Depression 101: Information for Clinicians" on Tuesday, March 21, 2006 from noon-1 p.m. in the Bellet Building room 310 (15th and Race Streets).

Presenter Christina Psaros will address one of the most difficult psychological issues that many women face - the "baby blues." The birth of a child should be a happy occasion, but some women find it difficult to enjoy. The workshop is designed to help clinicians and clinicians-in-training learn how to spot the signs of post partum depression and develop skills to help patients in this situation.

Dragonfire to Launch Online Internet Broadcast Station


Dragonfire, the fully interactive multimedia online magazine published by the Pennoni Honors College under the direction of Editor-in-Chief Amy Webb, will launch DFire Radio during the week of March 21, 2006. DFire Radio will start as a streaming station featuring selections from the collections of Dragonfire editors and contributors and the publication's best audio content. In the future, the station will include joint DFire Radio-Dragonfire projects, allowing visitors to experience "360-degree journalism," in which the news of a single topic is delivered from a variety of complimentary platforms at once.

The launch of DFire Radio coincides with the publication's music issue, now available at http://www.dfire.org. The issue includes interviews with artists ranging from The Rolling Stones to Branford Marsalis and Talking Heads discussing their first albums. The interviews can be streamed or downloaded.

Other features in the Dragonfire music issue are an interview with music journalist Toure; a review of Stoned, a new documentary about the life and death of original Rolling Stone member Brian Jones; an analysis of political campaign songs; and a profile of Philadelphia rap group VIP.

Diversity Conference to Consider "What Next?"


LeBow College of Business and the Office of Equality have collaborated with Fellowship Farm to offer a one-day conference, "Capitalizing on Diversity: The Next Steps" in Behrakis Grand Hall on Friday, March 24, 2006, starting at 8:30 a.m.

The event will focus on maximizing organizational diversity by using key skills and behaviors. Juan Johnson (above), president of the Diversity Leadership Academy of Atlanta, Georgia, is a featured presenter. A diverse panel with representation from academia, corporate settings and diversity trainers will also participate. Temple University's InterACTion, an improvisational theatre troupe, will provide a real-life look at the issues.

The cost, which includes continental breakfast, lunch and reception, is $45 per person. A limited number of students will be able to attend for free on a first-come, first-served basis. For more information, visit http://www.acteva.com/go/PhiladelphiaDiversity.

ABC Daytime Stars to Visit University City Main Campus


ABC soap opera stars Ignacio Serricchio (Diego Alcazar on General Hospital), Mfundo Morrison (Justus Ward on General Hospital), Justin Bruening (Jamie Martin on All My Children) and Colin Egglesfield (Josh Madden on All My Children) will visit the University City Main Campus on Friday, March 17, 2006 to meet the sisters of Drexel's Delta Zeta Sorority.

The visit by the stars is the grand prize of ABC's Daytime Campus Invasion competition. To win, the sorority competed against almost 200 other student groups across the United States in hosting parties at which viewers showed their spirit for soap operas. During a three-day period, Delta Zeta was judged to have created the most dynamic All My Children viewing experiences, including discussions about the show's plot arcs.

The visit will be held from 11 a.m.-2 p.m. Delta Zeta members will accompany the stars on a campus tour and conduct a question-and-answer session at their sorority house. From 12:30-2 p.m. a reception for Delta Zeta members, the stars and 150 invited student guests will be held in Behrakis Grand Hall

Late Night Series Open Mic at Creese


The Late Night Series - Philly will be held in the Creese Student Union Complex (32nd and Chestnut Streets) tonight, March 16, 2006 from 9-11 p.m.

The Late Night Series-Philly is a free weekly open mic featuring poetry, spoken word, live music, comedy and drama. This week's program is hosted by Post Midnight and will feature Brooklyn poet Mo Beasley, a capella group Ransom Notes and comedian Ronnie Long.

Staff Selection: Orientation Leaders and Dragon Assistants


The deadline to apply for Orientation Leader and Dragon Assistant is Friday, March 17, 2006. Orientation leaders have a six-week commitment throughout the summer that includes a salary, free housing and a meal plan. Dragon Assistants have a one-week commitment the week before classes in September that includes compensation.
