Psi Chi Psychology Research Day at Behrakis Grand Hall


The Philadelphia Area Psi Chi Psychology Research Day will be held in Behrakis Grand Hall (32nd and Chestnut Streets) on Thursday, March 16, 2006 from 5:30-8:30 p.m.

The event, which was coordinated by Drexel, Temple University, Penn and the University of the Sciences in Philadelphia, was developed to allow undergraduate and graduate students and faculty to discuss, learn and broaden their knowledge in the field of psychology. Drexel's Psi Chi National Honors Society in Psychology took part in the organization of the event under the direction of Dr. Ludo Scheffer, Drexel auxiliary professor of psychology.

The Philadelphia Area Psi Chi Psychology Research Day will include an open lecture from local faculty members and a poster session. At the buffet-style dinner, participants can engage in open discussions and, for those planning on attending graduate school, speak with faculty from the Philadelphia region.

Dr. James D. Herbert (above), Drexel associate professor of psychology, director of clinical training of the Ph.D. program in clinical psychology and associate dean of the College of Arts and Sciences, will discuss "Mindfulness and Acceptance-Based Behavior Therapy: New Developments in the CBT (Cognitive Behavior Therapy) Tradition."

World Cafe Live to Hold Acoustic College Clash


World Cafe Live (31st and Walnut Streets) will host the Greater Philadelphia Acoustic College Clash every other Wednesday from 6:30-8:30 p.m. The next session will be held on Wednesday, March 15, 2006 and will feature local band Ike.

The free open mic contest is open to all college students. Signups begin one hour before the show at 5:30 p.m., and are on a first-come, first-served basis. Each evening's winner will continue to compete for three free days of recording at Drexel's Mad Dragon Records studio.

Tanya Barrientos (above), novelist and author of The Philadelphia Inquirer column "Unconventional Wisdom," will be the guest of Paula Marantz Cohen on DUTV's The Drexel InterView today, March 14, 2006 at 8 p.m. The show will be rebroadcast at 10 a.m. on Wednesday, March 15; Saturday, March 18; Sunday, March 19; and Monday, March 20.

Medical Humanities Grand Rounds on Narrative Medicine


The Medical Humanities Division of the Drexel University College of Medicine will host the Grand Rounds program "Narrative Medicine: How 'Thinking Story' Can Contribute to Diagnosis and Treatment" on Friday, March 17, 2006 at noon on the Queen Lane Medical Campus, Auditorium A (2900 Queen Lane).

The program is free and open to the public. Dr. Emilie Passow (above), instructor of English and philosophy in the College of Arts and Sciences, is the guest speaker.

Sons of Saint Patrick Offers Grants for Study in Ireland


Planning on studying abroad in Ireland?

The Society of the Friendly Sons of Saint Patrick is offering a grant of up to $5,000 for students with at least a B average who will be spending a term studying in Ireland.

The application includes an essay that focuses on how a term in Ireland will relate to the applicant's academic and professional goals. More information can be found on the fellowship's Web site at http://www.drexel.edu/fellowships. The application deadline is May 15, 2006.

Chemistry Department Seminar on Color Spectra of Opaque Materials


The Chemistry Department will host a seminar on probing the color spectra of opaque materials on Wednesday, March 15, 2006 at 11 a.m. in Disque Hall room 109 (32nd Street between Chestnut and Market Streets).

Professor Ronald Musselman from the department of chemistry at Franklin and Marshall College will speak on "Solid-State Polarized UV-Vis Specular Reflectance Spectroscopy of Intense Electronic Transitions."

Rutgers Professor to Speak on the Information Search Process


Dr. Carol C. Kuhlthau (above), professor in the School of Communication, Information and Library Studies at Rutgers University, coordinator of School Library Media Specialization, and director of the Center for International Scholarship in School Libraries (CISSL), will speak on "Information Search Process (ISP)" on Tuesday, March 14, 2006 at 12:30 p.m. in Rush Building room 014 (33rd Street, north of Market Street).

The lecture is part of The iSchool at Drexel's Research & Teaching Talk Series, sponsored by the College of Information Science and Technology.
