Save the Date: Woman One Award Ceremony Honoring Stephanie Naidoff
The Drexel University College of Medicine's Institute for Women's Health will present its annual Woman One Award at a ceremony and reception on Monday, April 28, 2008, at 5:30 p.m. at The Rittenhouse Hotel (19th and Walnut Streets).
Woman One is a year-round program that provides multi-year scholarships to talented underrepresented minority women studying medicine, with preference given to those who are committed to serving disadvantaged communities.
The Woman One Award is presented annually to the woman who by the influence of her actions and the excellence of her example inspires women of all ages to reach for the highest standards of health and human behavior. Stephanie Naidoff (above), Philadelphia’s city representative and director of commerce, is the Woman One honoree for 2008.

Guitar Ensemble & Fusion Band Winter Concert Today
The Guitar Ensemble and Fusion Band will present their winter concert today, March 11, 2008, at 7:30 p.m. in Mandell Theater (33rd and Chestnut Streets).
The Guitar Ensemble's work consists of ensemble pieces as well as solo, duo and trio performances by the group's individual members. Works to be performed include Secret Agent Man, Amazing Grace and Bizet's Habanera.
The Fusion Band is an advanced performance ensemble that explores a variety of musical styles and genres including funk, reggae, salsa, samba, afro-Cuban, and world music. Performances will feature pieces by artists such as Eddie Harris, Marvin Gaye, and Kurt Rosenwinkel, among others.
The concert is free and open to the public.

The University’s chapter of the American Association of University Professors will meet today, March 11, 2008, from noon to 1 p.m. in room 8209, New College Building (245 N.15th Street).
Main topics of discussion will be the corporatization of universities and its effect on faculties, and the relationship of the Drexel AAUP chapter to the state conference and the national office of the AAUP. Additional agenda items will cover membership and election of officers.
A complimentary lunch will be served.

Baiada Breakfast Forum: "The Democratization of Entrepreneurship: Let Me In"
The Laurence A. Baiada Center for Entrepreneurship in Technology will host an Entrepreneurial Breakfast Forum, "The Democratization of Entrepreneurship: Let Me In," on Thursday, March 13, 2008, at 7:30 a.m. in Behrakis Grand Hall (32nd and Chestnut Streets).
One of the biggest obstacles for first-time entrepreneurs is gaining access to the right players in the entrepreneurial ecosystem in order to move their ideas and companies forward. Concurrently, venture capitalists, service providers and economic development agencies seek robust pipelines of quality entrepreneurial opportunities for growth.
This panel discussion will explore ways to create a more inclusive system, where gaining better access to funding sources, service providers and advisors can concurrently increase visibility and transparency of entrepreneurial companies. SAFAC Allocation Info Sessions for Student Organizations
Now is the time to start preparing for your FY09 annual allocation requests. Any open full-time undergraduate student organization wishing to apply for an FY09 annual allocation must have its treasurer and one other member attend one of the following Annual Allocation Information Sessions. All information sessions are held in the Greenawalt Student Development Center in the lower level of the Creese Student Center (32nd and Chestnut Streets).
Any new full-time undergraduate student organization formed after January 31, 2008, will not be eligible to apply for an FY09 Annual Allocation.

Computer Science to Present Lecture: "Improving Privacy in Distributed Constraint Information"
The Department of Computer Science will host Dr. Rachel Greenstadt (above) of Harvard University in a lecture, "Improving Privacy in Distributed Constraint Information," as part of the Computer Science Colloquium Series today, March 11, 2008, at 11 a.m. in room 153, University Crossings (32nd and Market Streets).
This talk will provide an analysis of the ways in which privacy has been protected and lost in distributed constraint optimization algorithms. Based on this analysis, a new algorithm will be presented that augments a prominent algorithm with secret sharing techniques and significantly reduces privacy loss, while introducing only minimal computational overhead.

Social Justice in Health Care Week
The Office of Student Life will host giveaways and screenings of educational videos during a weekly program in the year-long series "Social Justice in Health Care: Meeting the Needs of Each Individual Patient, " today, March 11, through Thursday, March 13, 2008, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. This month's highlighted topic is the role of body image in health care.
The goal of this series is to educate health-care students about how they can better treat their patients by understanding their differences and becoming familiar with their backgrounds, cultures and special circumstances. (One week during each month of the 2007-08 academic year will be dedicated to special topics.)
Informational handouts and brochures will be available in the lobby of New College Building (245 N 15th Street).
In addition, the Office of Student Life will create a "Social Justice in Health Care" quilt. During each week of the series, all students may decorate squares of fabric illustrating their hopes for the future of health care or to honor someone who may have suffered an injustice concerning their health. At the end of the year, the squares will be sewn together to create a quilt that will be displayed in the Center City Student Life Office.

Lunchtime Discussion Today: The Role of Body Image in Health Care
The Office of Student Life will host "The Role of Body Image in Health Care," a facilitated discussion, today, March 11, 2008, from noon to 1 p.m. in room 2101, New College Building (245 N.15th Street). Students, faculty and staff may attend.

Creative Arts in Therapy Program to Present Creative Arts Therapy Week
The Creative Arts in Therapy Program in the College of Nursing and Health Professions will participate in National Creative Arts Therapy Week beginning today, March 11, 2008, through Thursday, March 13, 2008 at the Klahr Lobby, New College Building (245 N.15th Street).
Drum circles with dancing will be held at 10:30 a.m. and at 3 p.m. today, at 9 a.m. on Wednesday March 12, and at noon on Thursday March 13, 2008.
This week is celebrated nationwide as a way to inform the public about the benefits of art therapy dance/movement therapy, music therapy, poetry therapy, and drama therapy.
Everyone is encouraged to celebrate CAT Week with drum and dance circles and a progressive community mural and become a part of the ongoing artistic creation. The community mural is up and waiting for expressions of health and creativity all day, beginning today through Thursday. Information and tips for enhancing health and reducing stress through the arts will be available.

Faculty Session on Cross Cultural Mentoring
The University Club, Office of Faculty Development and Equity and the Women in Engineering Research Group will sponsor a faculty session "Cross Cultural Mentoring with Dr. Betty Neal Crutcher" during a faculty lunch on Wednesday, April 2, 2008 from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the University Club, located on the sixth floor of MacAlister Hall (33rd and Chestnut Streets).
Dr. Crutcher's workshop will include topics across race and gender lines, from both the mentor and mentee perspective. Dr. Crutcher is a mentoring consultant with more than 20 years of experience in higher education.

The iSchool at Drexel to Host Its Spring Graduate Open House
The College of Information Science and Technology, the iSchool at Drexel, will host its Spring Graduate Open House for prospective students on Saturday, April 5, 2008, from 10 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. at the Rush Building (30 N. 33rd Street).

Deadline to Sign-up for Charrette Today
The Department of Architecture and Interior Design in the Antoinette Westphal College of Media Arts & Design will host a design charrette (an intense and often collaborative period of design activity) with 2008 Rankin Scholar-in-Residence Cameron Sinclair (above), who will be at Drexel from Thursday, April 3 to Monday, April 7. The charrette will take place at several on-campus locations to be determined after design teams are chosen. The charrette is limited to 72 students and the deadline to sign-up is today, March 11, 2008, at 5 p.m.
Students from all Drexel educational tracks are encouraged to participate in this challenging design competition. Sinclair has suggested that students in health care, medicine and engineering become involved in the contest.
The kick-off event for the Cameron Sinclair Design Charrette will be a presentation by Sinclair, “How Community Design Delivers More than Architecture,” on Thursday, April 3, 2008, at 6:30 p.m. at the Mandell Theater (33rd and Chestnut Streets).This lecture is free and open to the public.
Sinclair, co-founder and executive director of Architecture for Humanity, creates design solutions to international humanitarian crises such as tsunamis and hurricanes as well as ethnic and political conflicts. Currently working in a dozen countries, Architecture for Humanity draws upon the skills of countless designers to find immediate solutions for communities in need.

Homecoming Focus Group Session Tonight
Drexel University's Student Life Spirit Committee, consisting of members from Student Life, Alumni Relations, Athletics, Traditions Program and the DAC PAC, will host a Homecoming Focus Group Session today, March 11, 2008, at 6 p.m. in the Paul Peck Alumni Center (32nd and Market Streets).
Pizza and refreshments will be provided at the session.
The Spirit Committee hopes to institute a Homecoming Weekend on campus this fall, but cannot do so without the assistance and guidance of students. Specifically, the Spirit Committee is looking for students who would like to serve on a Student Advisory Committee, which would organize and plan Homecoming events.
