Provost’s Office's Behind Every Graduate Award

Drexel values the high school teachers who have inspired our graduates. Last year, the Office of the Provost initiated the "Behind Every Graduate" Award for Excellence in Secondary School Teaching. We will continue this tradition of honoring excellent high school teachers in 2007. The award acknowledges outstanding high school teachers who provided a new perspective or inspired a student to consider a certain major or career. All undergraduate seniors who will graduate in June this year are invited to nominate the high school teacher that inspired him or her to pursue college studies. The nominees must still be actively teaching.

To make a nomination, students should visit http://www.drexel.edu/provost/BehindEveryGraduate/. In addition to the form, students must submit a one-to-two page essay including the teacher's name, high school subject taught and a statement of why the teacher should be selected. Nominations must be submitted via Web form before Friday, April 27, 2007. Complete the form along with your essay and then submit your nomination via the button on the form found at the bottom of the nomination page.

A committee will review all entries and select a group of finalists who will be contacted and notified about the program. Finalists will then be asked to send a resume and other relevant information. His or her school principal will be also contacted for a reference. Honorees will receive an expense-paid trip to Philadelphia for two. They will attend pre-commencement activities and be recognized at the commencement ceremony of their nominating students. Each honoree will receive a $2,000 prize and a $2,000 donation will be made to the winning teachers' schools.
