Seniors: Sign-up for Class of 2008 Graduation Photos

Senior portraits for the Class of 2008 will be taken Monday, February 25 through Thursday, February 28, 2008, from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. in room 3012, MacAlister Hall (33rd and Chestnut Streets).

Any student who has a portrait taken will receive a complimentary Lexerd yearbook.

To schedule an appointment, log onto Carl Wolf Studio’s 24-hour scheduling Web site at http://www.cwsouryear.com and enter Drexel's school code: 87172. Appointments can also be scheduled by calling 1-800-687-9327 during normal business hours.

When scheduling an appointment, complete information will be provided about preparing for the portrait sitting, as well as other pertinent information.

Black History Month Awards Banquet

The Drexel Chapter of the National Society of Black Engineers is hosting its Fifth Annual Black History Month Awards Banquet in celebration of minority excellence in science, technology and engineering on Friday, February 15, 2008, at 6 p.m. in Behrakis Grand Hall, Creese Student Center (32nd and Chestnut Streets).

The event will celebrate past, present and future leaders in the science and engineering fields. NSBE will be honoring individuals in the categories of professional excellence, technical excellence and community service.

The keynote speaker for the event will be Angela Dowd-Burton, manager of local government relations at Rohm and Haas Company. The special guest will be the Mayor of Philadelphia, The Honorable Michael Nutter (above). This night will be a memorable night pulling together members of the Drexel and Greater Philadelphia communities together to celebrate the successes of minorities who are changing the world.

Alumni Association Scholarships

The Drexel University Alumni Association announces the availability of two scholarships for current students:

Applications are due to the Office of Alumni Relations by Friday, March 7, 2008 and are available at http://www.drexel.edu/ia/alumrel/association_scholarships.asp.

Note that students already awarded a full-tuition scholarship are not eligible.

Finalists may be required to interview with the Scholarship Committee.

Gender and Ethnic Medicine CME Seminar

Drexel University College of Medicine will host a Continuing Medical Education seminar on Friday, February 29 and Saturday, March 1, 2008, at the Union League of Philadelphia (140 South Broad Street).

Physicians and other healthcare professionals seeking to update their knowledge of gender and ethnic medicine are invited to attend. The agenda will highlight the latest information about gender and ethnic differences in health status and treatment outcomes.

Birthright Trip to Israel

Jewish students between the ages of 18-26 who have never participated in a peer-group trip to Israel are eligible for a free summer trip.

Birthright is a free ten-day trip that allows students to explore the land of Israel and their Jewish identity. Students will get a complete taste of Israel, from climbing Masada, to floating in the Dead Sea, to seeing the Western Wall in Jerusalem. Join Drexel Hillel and fellow Drexel students in June for this trip.

OCA and Hagerty Library Sponsor Free Late-night Breakfast for Midterms

Free Concert for Drexel Students

Free tickets are available for Piotr Anderszewski's (above) Philadelphia Chamber Music Society debut on Monday, February 18, 2008, at 8 p.m. at the Kimmel Center for the Performing Arts (260 South Broad Street, on the Avenue of the Arts).

Anderszewski will perform works by Bach, Schumann and Szymanowski.

Born in Warsaw to Polish-Hungarian parents, Anderszewski studied piano at the Chopin Academy in Warsaw and at conservatories in Strasbourg and Lyon. At age 18, he spent a year at the University of Southern California, and in his 20s studied with Murray Perahia and Leon Fleisher. He has been described variously as a "Polish punker" (New York Times) and a pianist of inspirational brilliance." (The Guardian). The product of a polyglot upbringing, Anderszewski speaks four languages. His life is lived mostly on the move, but he keeps a piano and a bicycle in Paris.

Growing a 21st Century Farm: Civic Agriculture and Social Change

Drexel Engineering Cities Initiative will host Ian Marvy, the founder and director of the innovative urban agriculture organization Added Value, on Monday, February 18, 2008, at 1 p.m. in room 2020, MacAlister Hall (33rd and Chestnut Streets)

Marvy will address some of the challenges and rewards in establishing urban farming operations. Farming small city plots is one way of dealing with a deindustrializing city landscape as well as the urban "food desert" that leaves many Americans without access to fresh food products.

Drexel's Winter 2008 Rubik's Cube Competition

Drexel's Winter 2008 Rubik's Cube Competition will be held on Saturday, February 23, 2008, from noon to 4 p.m. on the sixth floor, MacAlister Hall (33rd and Chestnut Streets).

The event is free and open to everyone. The competition is for Rubik's cube solvers to have fun and determine the fastest solver on campus. Prizes will be awarded to the top competitors. Pizza for everyone will be available.

Participants are asked to bring their own Rubik's cube.
