Black History Month Awards Banquet
The Drexel Chapter of the National Society of Black Engineers is hosting its Fifth Annual Black History Month Awards Banquet in celebration of minority excellence in science, technology and engineering on Saturday, February 15, 2008, at 6 p.m. in Behrakis Grand Hall, Creese Student Center (32nd and Chestnut Streets).
The event will celebrate past, present and future leaders in the science and engineering fields. NSBE will be honoring individuals in the categories of professional excellence, technical excellence and community service.
The keynote speaker for the event will be Angela Dowd-Burton, manager of local government relations at Rohm and Haas Company. The special guest will be the Mayor of Philadelphia, The Honorable Michael Nutter (above). This night will be a memorable night pulling together members of the Drexel and Greater Philadelphia communities together to celebrate the successes of minorities who are changing the world.

Rudman Institute to Present Lecture: "Where's the Money? How to Find Funding for Your Independent Film"
The Kal and Lucille Rudman Institute for Entertainment Studies and the Film and Video Program in the Antoinette Westphal College of Media Arts & Design, in partnership with Magnificent Minds, will present "Where's the Money? How to Find Funding for Your Independent Film," a lecture by noted author and fundraising guru Morrie Warshawski, today, February 13, 2008, at 7 p.m. at Stein Auditorium in Nesbitt Hall (33rd and Market Streets).
Warshawski will bring his years of in-the-trenches work with noncommercial independent filmmakers to bear on a topic that's always timely and relevant. He will discuss the upsides and downsides of each funding avenue, and what it takes to be successful at fundraising. A question-and-answer period and a book signing will follow the lecture.
This lecture is free and students, emerging and seasoned filmmakers are all welcome to attend.

"Think Pink" with Women's Basketball
The women's basketball program will join the Women's Basketball Coaches Association (WBCA) and 600 schools nationally in the organization's "Think Pink" initiative on Thursday, February 14, 2008, at 7 p.m. when the Dragons take on longtime rival the University of Delaware Blue Hens.
The WBCA's "Think Pink" initiative is a global, unified effort for the WBCA's nation of coaches to assist in raising breast cancer awareness on the court, across campuses, in communities and beyond.
Both teams will wear pink wristbands and headbands donated from 3rd Power Outlet . Also, the coaching staffs and Drexel staff will all be wearing pink to help raise awareness for breast cancer.
Pretzel Boy will be selling ribbon-shaped pretzels and the Phi Sigma Sigma sorority will be selling pink ribbons at the game with all of the proceeds going to the Susan G. Koman for the Cure foundation.
Coca-Cola will be supplying pink "Mardi Gras" beads to everyone in attendance.
Any fan who wears pink to the game will receive free admission.

Physics Lecture: "Your Textbook is Wrong about the Milky Way"
The Department of Physics will host a seminar, "Your Texbook is Wrong about the Milky Way," on Thursday, February 14, 2008, at 3:30 p.m. in room 919, Disque Hall (32nd and Chestnut Streets).
The speaker will be Dr. Heidi Newberg, associate professor at the Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute.
Dr. Newberg's current research is primarily related to understanding the structure of our own galaxy through using A stars as tracers of the galactic halo, and using photometrically determined metallicities of main sequence F-K stars to determine whether the thick disk is chemically distinct from the thin disk and galactic halo of our galaxy.
The seminar is open to the public.

Honors College Valentine's Day Cultural Event – Storytelling Performance of "Hills"
Join Drexel's resident storyteller, Philip Poczik, on Thursday, February 14, 2008, at 7 p.m. in Patten Auditorium room 109, Matheson Hall (32nd and Market Streets).
The event is sponsored by Pennoni Honors College, Center for Civic Engagement, Delta Zeta Sorority, Pi Kappa Alpha, FISDU, FUSE and CEO.
Delta Zeta Sorority will be holding its Seventh Annual Hearts for Hearing Drive at the event. Paper hearts will be on sale for $1, with all proceeds going to charity.

Rare Lincoln Portrait on Display at Drexel
A portrait of Abraham Lincoln (above) by noted wood engraver Gustav Kruell (1843-1907) is on display this month as part of The Drexel Collection on the third floor of Main Building (32nd and Chestnut Streets).
Kruell, who was born in Dusseldorf, Germany and immigrated to the United States in 1873, served as the first president of the Society of American Wood Engravers and became famous for his portraits of well-known Americans. This portrait of Lincoln, which dates to 1891, is considered his finest work.

DUSLA field trip to UPenn's Rare Book and Manuscript Library
Join Drexel University Special Libraries Association (DUSLA) on Saturday, February 23, 2008, at 1 p.m. for a field trip to the University of Pennsylvania Rare Book and Manuscript Library (Locust Walk between 34th and 36th Streets).
The tour will highlight a selection of items from the collections and explain the day-to-day affairs of working in a special collections library.
Those interested in attending will meet in the lobby of Van Pelt Library (3420 Walnut Street). A photo ID is required for entry to the library.

Interviewing and Job Searching
Sigma Phi Epsilon will host guest speaker Rick Berry for a seminar on interviewing and job searching today, February 13, 2008, at 7 p.m. in room 103, Disque Hall (32nd and Chestnut Streets).
The event is designed to educate students on successful techniques for interviewing and job searching.
Berry has conducted seminars on campuses across the U.S. The subject matter generally revolves around "How to Effectively Interview to Get the Job You Are Looking For." He is a motivational speaker and actively engages the audience during the seminar with active discussion among the group.

Celebrate Valentine's Day at the Po Jazz Festival
In celebration of Black History Month, the Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority and Late Night Series Philadelphia will present the Po Jazz Festival on Thursday, February 14, 2008, at 8:30 p.m. in Behrakis Grand Hall, Creese Student Center (32nd and Chestnut Streets).
The Po Jazz Festival is an evening of food, fun, music and spoken word with a Valentine's Day twist. Featured performers include comedian Ronnie Long and the Arpeggio Jazz Ensemble, described as "without a doubt the most innovative progressive jazz band in our listening area" by Philadelphia's Temple University Public Radio.
Late Night Series Philadelphia is a weekly open mic sponsored by the Antoinette Westphal College of Media Arts & Design.
The event is free and open to the general public.
