Drexel Sierra Club to Meet Today

The Drexel Sierra Club is holding a meeting for environmentally conscious individuals today, January 31, 2008, at 5 p.m. in the Greenawalt Student Development Center, lower level of Creese Student Center (32nd and Chestnut Streets)

The Sierra Club is a national environmental organization that works to protect our communities and the planet. The club is America's oldest, largest and most influential grassroots environmental organization.

Future plans for creating a greener Drexel and strengthening community and social ties will be discussed at the meeting. All those interested in participating with the Sierra Club should come and express their ideas.

Those unable to attend should contact the Sierra Club and information from the meeting will be provided.

CEO Program to Hold Workshop Today: "Leadership for a Changing World"

The Creating Excellent Organizations (CEO) program will offer a workshop," Leadership for a Changing World," today, January 31, 2008, from 6 to 7:30 p.m. in room 2020, MacAlister Hall (33rd and Chestnut Streets).

Deborah Golder, interim associate dean of students, will present an interactive and engaging presentation on how to grow leadership practice in order to be successful in our constantly changing world. Leadership is inherently about people. The workshop will explore personal leadership values; how to incorporate new habits to be successful in a complex and diverse world and how to apply these practices for the common good.

The Steinbright Career Development Center To Present Workshop: "Dress for Success" Today

The Steinbright Career Development Center will present a workshop "Dress for Success," today, January 31, 2008, from 4 to 5 p.m. in MacAlister Hall (33rd and Chestnut Streets).

First impressions count. Students with job interviews coming up can learn about workplace attire that would help them look professional and command trust and respect. All students are welcome to attend.

Sara Canuso of "A Suitable Solution" will be on hand to share her experience working with a variety of professionals in all career fields.

Asbury to Screen Student Documentary New Orleans

Asbury Protestant Ministry will premiere Drexel film student Zac Rubino's documentary about Asbury's 2006 Alternative Spring Break (ASB) trip to New Orleans just seven months after Hurricane Katrina today, January 31, 2008, at 7:30 p.m. in room 2019-2020 of MacAlister Hall (33rd and Chestnut Streets).

Computer Science Presents: "Convex Optimization Techniques for Computer Vision"

Dr. C.J. Taylor of the University of Pennsylvania will speak on "Applying Convex Optimization Techniques to Energy Minimization Problems in Computer Vision" as part of the Computer Science Colloquium Series on Monday, February 4, 2008, at 11 a.m. in room 153 of the University Crossings building (32st and Market Streets).

This talk describes a novel approach to applying convex optimization, in particular interior point barrier methods, to solve some energy minimization problems in an efficient manner. The methods exploit the fact that computer vision problems usually have specific structure to them. Two exemplary problems will be described.

Study Abroad Deadlines Extended until February 15

The Drexel Study Abroad office has extended the deadline for the following fall term exchange programs: UK, Holland, Korea, Taiwan, Turkey, France, Germany (both UAS7 and Mannheim) and all Global Engineering Education Exchange programs (GE3) . The deadline to apply for the summer/fall term study abroad program in Australia has also been extended until Friday, February 15, 2008.
