Painted Bride Quarterly to Host Poetry Reading Tonight
The Painted Bride Quarterly will host a poetry reading today, January 23, 2008, at 8 p.m. at the Bubble House Restaurant (3404 Sansom Street) featuring C.A. Conrad & Shafer Hall, with a musical performance by Andrew Keller.
Shafer Hall is a co-editor on PBQ's New York staff as well as the host of the Frequency Reading Series. His book of poetry, Never Cry Wolf, is available now at bookstores. Andrew Keller is a writer and musician residing in Philadelphia, best known as the guitarist for Hermit Thrushes.
The event is free and open to the public.

In Memorium: Dean Emerita Marjorie Rankin
The Drexel community was saddened to learn of the passing of Dean Emerita Marjorie Rankin on January 20, 2008. Dean Rankin resided at the Dunwoody retirement community in Newtown Square, PA. She was born in Keytesville, MO.
Dean Rankin had a long and noteworthy career at the University. She joined the Drexel faculty in 1946 as an assistant professor and served as the dean of Nesbitt College (today's Antoinette Westphal College of Media Arts & Design) until her retirement in 1984.
Under Dean Rankin’s leadership, the College of Home Economics was one of the first at Drexel to develop graduate studies leading to the master of science degree. She received an honorary Doctor of Laws at Drexel’s 1963 commencement ceremonies.
Contributions in her memory may be made to Drexel University; Russell Sage College of Troy, New York; Dunwoody Village in Newtown Square; The Caring Hospice of Fort Washington, PA; or First Church of Christ Scientist at 1915 Pine Street in Philadelphia.

Benefits Buzz on Tuition Remission Today
Human Resources will host a workshop today, January 23, 2008, from 1:30 to 2:30 p.m. in room 105 of the Bellet Building (1505 Race Street) on the Center City Hahnemann Campus.
The next Benefits Buzz session on the Center City Hahnemann Campus, "Benefits Forms – Where Can I Find Them?" will be held on January 30, 2008, at the same time and location.
Benefits Buzz is an informal weekly meeting geared toward answering questions and providing information about Drexel benefits. Human Resources representatives will be available to present information and answer questions from faculty and staff.

History Comes Alive at Mandell Theater with "Dancing Through Time"
The Drexel Dance Ensemble will present its winter dance concert "Dancing Through Time," January 24 through January 26, 2008, at 8 p.m. in Mandell Theater (33rd and Chestnut Streets).
The Dance Ensemble's performance will make history its theme in a selection of student-choreographed pieces and world premiere works by Dr. Miriam Giguere, the director of the Dance Program in the Antoinette Westphal College of Media Arts & Design. The work of Philadelphia choreographer Stephen Welsh and Marianela Boan, Cuba's best known avant-garde choreographer, will also be featured.
The performance is open to the public. Tickets are $5 for students and $8 for general admission.

Baiada Center to Host Business Plan Development Workshop
The Laurence A. Baiada Center for Entrepreneurship in Technology will host the next session in the Business Plan Development Workshop series on Saturday, January 26, 2008, in the Baiada Center on the ground floor of the Academic Building (3225 Arch Street).
The session will begin at 9:30 a.m. with a continental breakfast and instruction will begin promptly at 10 a.m. This workshop will focus on planning the operations of a business, from hiring the right people to how to produce the goods or services of the company. Students preparing to enter the Baiada business competitions are encouraged to attend.

CEO Program to Hold Workshop Tonight on "Pop Culture Leaders"
The Creating Excellent Organizations (CEO) program will offer a workshop, "Pop Culture Leaders," today, January 23, 2008, from 6 to 7:30 p.m. in room 2020 of MacAlister Hall (33rd and Chestnut Streets).
In a pop-culture world where celebrity stories attract an lenormous amount of attention, few celebrities have emerged as true leaders by using their access to the media to bring attention to worthy causes. The few who have are true testaments to what it means to be a leader.
This workshop will examine four pop-culture leaders who have succeeded in getting their message across in today's world: J.J Abrams (above left), Tyra Banks (above center), Dane Cook (above right), and J.K. Rowling. Participants will learn what makes them leaders and how their individual styles make for effective leadership.

Mentors Needed for Shadowing Day
The Center City Hahnemann Campus and Hahnemann University Hospital will host ninth grade students from the School District of Philadelphia in the annual Shadowing Day on Friday, January 25, 2008.
Students will visit the Center City campus to gain first-hand exposure to the everyday working world. Volunteers are needed to spend three hours as mentors to ensure that student participation in this annual program is both productive and memorable. Over the years it has been demonstrated that even this brief time shadowing faculty, staff and employees can be a life-changing experience for students.

"Configuring the Body in Literature, the Arts, and the Biological Sciences Tonight"
The College of Arts and Sciences will present "Subject/Object: Configuring the Body in Literature, the Arts, and the Biological Sciences," today, January 23, 2008, at 5 p.m. in the University Club on the 6th floor, MacAlister Hall (33rd and Chestnut Streets).
The discussion will focus on the human body, pleasure and pain, pride and shame, the primary sources of our sense of self and of others and the body as a vehicle for navigating the physical space. To provide insight into the range of issues that the human body both invites and generates, this discussion will pose perspectives through a panel presentation of faculty members from several disciplines, including literature, the visual and performing arts and biological engineering.

2007 W-2 Forms and TurboTax Options
Electronic 2007 W-2 Forms are now available online via DrexelOne at http://one.drexel.edu for employees who signed up for the option. W-2 forms can be accessed from any computer with an internet connection. Forgotten DrexelOne User IDs can be retrieved by contacting the IRT help desk at consult@drexel.edu.
To insure confidentiality, it is recommend that the W-2 is printed on your home computer. Those without access to a personal computer or printer at home, and who choose to print from their workstation, are advised to immediately retrieve W-2forms from the printer.
Consult the online directions at http://www.drexel.edu/depts/compt/payroll/ for step by step guidance for accessing your electronic W-2.
Employees choosing the traditional U.S. postal delivery will receive W-2 forms at the home addresses, postmarked not later than January 31.
Employees who selected the TurboTax option, can import W-2 information directly into the TurboTax forms.

The Conversation Network is a unique opportunity for language and cultural exchange. It provides a forum for faculty, staff and students to meet and interact with international students learning English at Drexel's English Language Center.
This is an excellent opportunity to boost foreign language skills.

School of Public Health Grand Rounds
The next Drexel University School of Public Health Grand Rounds will take place on Thursday, January 24, 2008, at 4:30 p.m. in Geary Auditorium in the New College Building (Vine and 15th Streets) on the Center City Hahnemann Campus.
The talk "Can the Global Tobacco Epidemic Be Stopped?" will be presented by Dr. Jonathan M. Samet (above), professor and chairman of the department of epidemiology of the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health. He is also director of the Institute for Global Tobacco Control, a World Health Organization Collaborating Center, and co-director of the Risk Sciences and Public Policy Institute.
His research has addressed the effects of inhaled pollutants in the general environment and in the workplace. He has written widely on the health effects of active and passive smoking and served as consulting editor and senior scientific editor for “Surgeon General Reports on smoking and health and the National Cancer Institute’s “Monographs on Tobacco Control.”
The Public Health Grand Rounds series is presented in partnership with Health Partners of Philadelphia.
